exactly. Ray could have made a big impact coming back and fighting Hagler right after Marvin fought Hearns, but he saw the fight and didn't want to fight that Hagler. I think Ray senses something about Hagler not being as motivated. He was good at that stuff usually.

mugabi deserves respect and most people forget a majority of his fights were fought at 154. he challenged the man at 160 and showed a big heart and much more talent then what was thought at the time he possessed

dont forget ray thought he had a shot hearns in front of him for the rematch. he also waited for hearns to slow down before he granted him a second fight

  4. Barkley, no question about it.

I was going to mention the junior middle thing but...
:good Glad to see some well deserved respect for The Beast. He earned it.

I'll never forget the buildup to the Hagler/Mugabi fight especially living in Tampa at the time, Mugabi's adopted home town. He was our chosen man to fight THE MAN, Hagler.

Ray did that a lot after Marvin. I think he felt he really won that Hagler fight by playing those games, so he tried them against Hearns and later Duran. Ray thought Hearns was a shot fighter for losing to Barkley, and then looking bad against Kinchen. Then Ray has Tommy weigh in at 164 thinking Tommy would stuggle, and Tommy comes in 162.

which shows you the guts of Hagler. Had I been Hagler and seen those fights on NBC I wouldn't have wanted to fight him.

leonard was a brilliant fighter but these stipulations hurt his reputation. who ever thought that even an old ray would get stopped by the feather fisted hector camacho, lol

That Camacho fight surprised me. That just showed that Norris took more out of Ray than I thought, added to that the 6 years since Norris. Ray lost all his speed by 1997.

yeah it was sad. I thought Hagler ended his career well and on top. Never was knocked out and fought the best round ever with Hearns. Fought top fighters Hearns,Duran,Leonard. Great career.
