People are starting to debate who the better/greater fighter is between Ward and Crawford. So let me ask this question, who is the better fighter between Spence and Kovalev?
They are pretty even IMO so the difference is that Crawford dominated Spence whereas Ward should have one loss to Kovalev and one questionable stoppage win.
For me Kovalev was better, better jab, more power, far better footwork, could press forward but could also box off the back foot unlike Spence, his win over Hopkins is better than anything Spence has done and when Kovalev fought a prime great in Ward was at least competitive unlike Spence.
Is this a joke? Aside from Kovalev's far superior skill level, fighting on the road and in his opponent's backyards often (what Dre described as ''doing it the hard way''), Kovalev had the system working against him and he would've achieved much more and his legacy be much greater had it not been, Spence is a product of the system and the PBC/Showtime mafia and its smoke and mirrors narrative shaping media spin merchants. Kovalev was robbed of a huge part of his legacy, all of his belts he had to work so hard and make enormous sacrifices to obtain (uprooting and leaving his homeland, fighting for free for his first 18 fights etc,), P4P supremacy, and future earning potential in his career defining fight by Dre's thieving home judges and then they appointed three more for the rematch and with a corrupt snake home ref in tow and the use of every underhand dirty trick to ensure that Dre secured the win via any means necessary. Kovalev outboxed the supposed master boxer Dirty Dre on his own soil but they robbed him of his crown and his glory, Spence looked like a clueless club fighter against his Dre. Kovalev definitely peaked higher. Kov was also much more naturally talented. Spence has more heart, but overall Kov was better.
Kovelav, he beat Ward clearly (only to get robbed) in their first fight and Wars's better than anyone Spence has beat.
Kovalev at his best was viewed as a machine and somebody who combined fine boxing skills with crushing power and timing. It always felt like it was a matter of time before he got his man. Spence never had that kind of mystique about him. Brook (who is a very good fighter, admittedly) gave him all he could handle in his match, and it's arguable that Brook's face had been 'softened' by GGG beforehand.
