Quartey had a fantastic stretch from Espana to Phillips before he lost the bounce in his feet. anyone think that Quartey was better than Morales?

one thing is for sure. Quartey was a hell of a lot more athletically talented

Quartey was a good fighter and is often underrated but EM is superior.

Quartey is underrated but Morales takes this, he's the better of the two p4p.

For me, it should stop right there. Who you actually beat is far more important than how capable you look, especially since impressive stylistic points can vary wildly across different levels of quality of opposition.

    Morales.

Morales would still have Pacquiao and Barrera tho.

As for the thread, i would say at his very best, Erik did look better.

Morales. Quartey was not underrated. He beat decent guys and lost to better opposition. He can only fault himself for taking long layoffs and thinking he can come back at anytime and still perform at 100%. He lost to Vargas who I think is a second tier to Oscar, Shane, and Tito. I would have loved to have seen him fight Tito.

You just said it, Oscar performed lousy in that fight so if he performed at 100%? Again, nothing special about Quartey except his jab.

not like Quartey was at his best either. quartey was one-dimensional but he did a hell of a lot with it.

I will give you that, but that is like Mayweather, Sr telling SRL his had was broke in their fight. SRL answer was: That is your problem. Quartey should have surrounded himself with a better trainer and conditioner.

take away quartey's jab and he doesn't do anything outstanding. In order to be a truly great fighter you have to really to multiple things very very well and quartey didn't really have anything outside the jab that falls into that bracket (he was still a very good fighter though).

whereas morales on the other hand punched extremely well with a variety of punches, had an iron chin and will and could box and brawl with equal skill.

    i'd go for morales

As good as Quartay was, I'd still go with Morales. Morales was a beast in his prime. H2H I would favor Quartay. Looking at resume mixed with skill and heart, I'd go with Morales.

Morales and its not even close. More versatile, more explosive, Morales superior in every way. I like Ike, but he never achieved the legend status of a Morales, but he was a very good fighter that always came to fight. Always tried to overpower his opponents even bigger ones like Vargas, but he was also a fundamentally sound boxer too with that high guard defense and battering ram of a jab. Morales looked spectacular even past his prime and at times even a shot Morales looked great in flashes. Quartey shouldn't even be in the same category period. Prime Morales was whuppin Floyd Quartey was a beast, but prime Morales is in the same category as Floyd and Pacman easily as the best of their eras.
