2 very underrated southpaw champions known for their crafty boxing skills and exceptional defense. Both were great talents but also pretty unlucky with how their careers unfolded, falling short of being considered great. Who would say is the better fighter in your view?

    I'd say Reggie b/c he,
    1. generally competed vs. a higher level of comp IMO
    2. appeared to have more pop in his punches (enough to floor Toney & starch Guthrie).
    3. carried his success up multiple weight classes

Good question. I really like both and I think They are both underrated. I didn't notice before how similar their records are - 42-6-1 for Stevie vs 44-7-1 Reggie

I think one could make an argument for Johnston, but I'll agree with the other posters here that Reggie has an edge. Stevie had a beautiful series of fights with Jose Luis Catillo, but He missed out on Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr., who were in his weight-class when He was competing.
Reggie probably missed out on some names too - with how much depth there was in the Middleweight division in the 90s - but He did fight Toney and Roy, so two of the best fighters of his generation... and even has a strong argument for beating one of them.

Steve Johnston for me. Many people forget he stopped Sharmba Mitchell on his way up.
