better fighter today? Mijares or Calzaghe?

Hard to say.

He put on his best performance vs. Kessler then one that looked pretty bad vs. Hopkins. But you can never look good vs. Hopkins, and Calzaghe was able to take away BHop's best weapons as the fight went on, and I've never EVER seen that look on Hopkins' face before - the look of 'I have no clue what to do'. IMO by the end of the fight Calzaghe became absolutely masterful, Hopkins, usually a great finisher in 12 rounds (Tito, Tarver, Winky just a few months back) looked ready to quit if there are 2 more rounds. Strangely everybody remembers the knockdown, Calzaghe being 'exposed' but that look on Bernard's face was the key moment in the fight for me.

I don't think that his last fight is good to judge Joe's current level. Based on the last few, Calzaghe is the better these days because he put up the performances vs. better opposition.

 

i'll be honest here and say i havent seen enough of mijares to vote on it. i'll bet there's a few who have voted here who are the same as me.

Have you seen the Mijares-Maldanado fight? What exactly happen there.

Maldnado is a tough dude that keeps you honest but how that fight ever got close to a draw Im intruiged to know.

At this stage Mijares fairly comfortably. He's right in his prime in my opinion, whereas Calzaghe is a 36 year old guy whos main attributes are physical.
