Better Footwork: Calzaghe or Hatton?

hattons footwork was 2nd to none in his domestic and wbu days,but after beating zoo he seemed to loose intrest in this and think he can bulldoze everyone,it worked untill he met mayweather:bbb

As Widdy said, Hatton was brilliant at creating openings and from angles that gave great leverage and his speed of foot, especially when he had someone in trouble was 2nd to none. But at top level he may of become a littlle to predictable and had to rely on his strength to get him through. But to say he had **** feet is bollocks.
Calzaghe's feet were his greatest attribute imo. They're the reason he could throw 15 slaps, disapear, then come at you again from a different angle with another 12. He could fight off the back foot or stand right in front of you comin at you fom all angles.
That gives Calzaghe the edge.

Both had good footwork but due to his superior domestic and international opposition Hatton was able to demonstrate his more frequently. Anyone who thinks Hatton had **** footwork needs to watch his sidesteps Vs Tommy Peacock etc which became a staple of manchester fighters- John Simpson was side stepping well the other night.

Calzaghe's footwork like his punching was largely unintentional but he was a decent fighter and his footwork was good enough to move him and out of range as required.

Hatton had competetent footwork decent at cutting off the ring, but not a lot else.

Calzaghe can do it all.

Hopkins is a mile better than both of them combined.

I think your first sentence is partially true - but would you not agree that Hatton let his ego get to him after defeating Tszyu rather than fighting to instructions from his corner?

hatton was always chasing fights after tszu, on his way up he did cut the ring off well he also closed the range down really well (hes got a short reach) got in and out with his shots. with his opponent on the ropes he got brilliant angles with his footwork.

 

have you ever boxed, cos i dont see that its easy to look as good as hatton looked in those days. nearly every fighter including all time greats have fought over the hill fighters and journey men, but you have to shine and be head and shoulders above them, which he was..imho
