Both excellent technicians with high IQ and of course terrific footwork with aggressive angling. Similar in my view. Who had the better, more effective footwork? Who's do you prefer? You can also use this thread to compare their overall skills if you like.
Just by comparing both of their footwork I think they’re almost equal with how they used angles and setting up their offense. Personally I think Loma’s footwork was slightly better but Canizales' movement is still incredible to watch. This content is protected
Oh man it’s Orlando Canizales he had quick feet, hit hard, great balance and technique… Loma had an amateurs style of fighting that doesn’t do anything for me “tap tap” stuff mostly but his footwork was classy, close but just not better overall as a fighter. Canizales was like a little Joe Louis with a lot of pep in his step.
Agree with the assessment that on paper they’re similar in footwork skills and creating angles, but Orlando put himself in position for more bad-intentions type offense while Loma with his posture was more positioning for pitty-pat punches.
I agree, I think the fighters are similar. I've known trainers that stressed angles/pivots so much in their training that I thought they neglected things like punching technique/leverage. But their fighters were conditioned, always moved after punching and were hard to beat. Hard punches with a weight shift, off of the angle/pivot would be great, but even quick arm punches can work if the fighter is in good enough condition to give an "angle" whenever he completes his combination. As to who is better between those two? I think picking one as "better" is one of those things I might change from day to day depending on what I think is important that day. I'd be happy with any fighter who punches then moves like either of them.
That was one of my favorite things about Canizales, how well he moved while still managing to get a lot of pop into his punches. Those two things do not have to be mutually exclusive.
