of course ali in this one, the chin question was questionable, but this one ali wins easily as ali has shown heart each time hes faced trouble. the big question mark remains with vitali is the bryd fight, although some may argue he was legitimately injured and even if showed heart could have ended his own career, showed great heart in lewis fight. but no doubt ali has one of the biggest hearts of all time, one of the reasons he was the greatest.
No brainer really, Ali. Ali is like when the going gets tough ali gets going. Vitali is like when the going gets tough you quit. For me that's all that needs to said really.
All fighters have heart. It doesn't matter if it's Ali or Eric Crumble, it takes a lot of heart and courage to step in that ring and risk your life.
Ali of course, but the people calling Vitali a quitter on the basis of what happened in one fight ten years ago really need to man up and lace up.
A strange question, which can only be an attempt to gain Vitali some credibility. I'm sure it'll not be long before a clueless cretin comes on and questions Ali's heart.
Close call. I'd have to go with Ali though. He had an unbreakable spirit. Vitali can just about be broken if his health is threatened; it's just that no one can threaten it.
Is heart at the expense of your health a good thing though? Maybe Vitali would get more credit if he carried on and ruined his boxing career, or better still end up brain damaged through fighting with one arm and being unable to defend himself? Being sensible does not mean you have no heart, 'no heart' is quitting because you are losing, despite there being nothing wrong with you. Looking at Ali now, how many of you would chose heart over sense?
Your last post wasn't an answer to the question either. This is a discussion forum, you are allowed to stray slightly off the path of one word answers you know. My post was relevant because I was pointing out that 'better heart' is a bit of a misnomer in boxing, as someone who continues fighting with a serious injury inevitably ends up in a worse state long term than the fighter who quits to save his health. That's not 'better' is it?
What a stupid question,Ali fought blinded for a round against Sonny Liston, got up in a few seconds after a monster left hook from Frazier in the 15th round, fought with a broken jaw against Norton, took a horrible beating off Holmes Vitali quit against Byrd, dont blame him for that though and then wanted to fight on with an awful cut against Lewis How anyone could pick Vitali is beyond me Its like asking who had a better chin,Jake la Motta or Nigel Benn, just silly
