Question: what exactly is a good jab? It can be used in so many ways.

This is pretty fun thread. I don't feel I've watched nearly enough Kalambay fights for my answer to have much weight but what I will say is that it's very interesting to contrast how both men employed their jabs and which you give more importance.
Harada used his primarily to break the distance to negate the very reach disadvantage which meant he couldn't use his jab in a more traditional way. Harada's jab was fast, accurate, and, most of all, punishing. He really used it as a weapon, there was serious spite to his jab. He was also excellent at using the jab to back up opponents onto the ropes, and going to head and body with it, as well as doubling or tripling it on top of moving forward at the same time. He truly had a marvellous jab, especially for a pressure fighter.
Conversely, Kalambay used his jab to create space and control the distance. It was as much a defensive tool as an offensive one. Kalambay was a very well-schooled and traditional boxer. He was probably better at probing with the jab and at feinting it than Harada was imo.

Yea, I know, just threw them in the mix, so my choice would be Kalambay.

Still on the fence with this, especially as big admirers of both these awesome fighters. Both used it with great succession but in different ways. Not the hardest jabs but a great weapon and I think Harada has one of the best jabs for an aggressive swarmer while Kalambay has one of the best jabs for a pure boxing mover.

If I had to choose between the two I might favor Kalambay's, especially based on his performance in the first Mike McCallum fight where he puts it to great use.
