Hearns on Duran because Hearns had been stopped before while Durans chin had remained solid thru 70/80 pro fights + Duran was beat by 1 solid right hand & was never in the fight, at least Hearns participated in 1 of the best ever fights & dont forget, as wonky as he looked, he WAS stopped on his feet, Roberto, even tho it hurts me to say, was flat out. :|
leonard would have no chance. Leonard was seen in action just the month before and had his hands full. Then he retired. You cant honestly believe anyone would think he had a chance against Tommy this time around. He would have gotten himself killed. Hearns Duran for me. I was more than a little surpised at the outcome. I had been reading the synopsis by KO magazine that Duran might come on strong in the middle rounds before Hearns broke away. As they said, no one knocks out Duran. Even steward contradicted Tommy who predicted the round. Because of the prediction and the complete destruction I felt that Tommy had to be on the same level as hagler himself. He more than showed up Hagler, who refused to cut loose. Hagler's knockout over Tommy however, reverberated loudly around the world. The words "nobody can beat Hagler" were now on the lips of every fight fan, fighter, ex-welterweights, sports journalists or anyone that had seen the fight.
Sugar Ray caught lightning in a bottle the night he fought Tommy. It's still astonishing that Hearns came in weighing 145! To put it into perspective, Ricky Hatton weighed 145 when he fought Mayweather, on a weigh in the day before. Consider how much bigger Hearns was, and he came in weighing 145 on the day of the fight. Hearns at 154 was at his absolute peak best, Sugar Ray wouldn't beat that version of Tommy.
Hey, i was at Hagler/Hearns and it was awesome !!! However, Hurans devastsating KO of Duran was Incredible ! Have to go with that one, watching Duran go face first to the canvas ! Something I never thought I`d see..
It's a knockout I watch every now and then, simply for the beautiful savagery of the moment. Hearns could not have hit Duran with a more perfect punch if he had tried that a hundred times over. Incredible, incredible punch.
I think he hit him that clean because Duran was wobbling and out of it. Hearns had hit Duran with probably 10 big right hands previous to that last one
