Well at 140 or 147 Hagler would have to cut off an appendage to make weight so Manny would probably win. More skilled? I disagree. More explosive? Yes. But Hagler's chin is cast iron and his stamina is remarkable.

I don't think anyone is arguing what would happen if they fought. I think people are talking about P4P who's the better boxer and whos had the better career.

They both have incredible stamina. Hagler's chin is incredible. Pacquiao has speed advantage and p4p power advantage too.

But Hagler's ability to cut off the ring is exceptional. They both have incredible wins and incredible resume.

They're both just so damn good. It's hard to say who's better.

Hard to vote against Hagler. The way he dispatched on Tommy Hearns was just unbelievable. He could switch stances too. PAC is amazing, but I gotta vote Hagler.

True. But to be fair, you got to admit Tommy fought the wrong fight. He should have fought behind his jab and boxed. Tried to wear Hagler down. He felt he could take Hagler out. I understand. But in the end, and hindsight is 20/20, the man should have boxed Hagler to wear the man down.

Just in my opinion. Just so happens I watched that fight again recently given the anniversary, and thought it was interesting because Tommy could have had better success boxing and staying behind that great jab of his.

    What do you think? :think

As great as Tommy was his stamina and chin were questionable. All fighters have flaws. Though they say Robinson at 147 did not. But that's not the point.

Hagler had a great gameplan. I think he would have won anyways if Hearns tried to wear him down. Hagler wasn't going to be worn down. His stamina and chin were just vastly superior to Hearns.

I totally agree and watched the same special which is why it's fresh in my mind. I think Tommy was riding high at that point and thought he was the baddest man alive. Hagler showed the dude no respect and basically told him he was gonna knock him out. It may have been Haglers gameplan to talk Tommy into that type of fight. I think if Tommy boxed and jabbed, and picked his spots to load up, he would've fared much better.

    Better...at what? Define parameters.

    Greater legacy, overall, you mean?

    Which of them wins h2h?

Better in particular skill areas? (if so, then in which?)

    What are you asking here?

I could see a decision possibly, but could Hearns frail body and stamina issues stand up to 15 rounds of pressure?

That's a long way to go against Hagler.

Hearns was out boxing Sugar Ray for a good portion of their fight. So he has the skills. But we know what eventually happened there lol. Most likely Hagler would've caught up to him too. Or, maybe if Hearns boxed more against Hagler, at some points he would've snuck in that right hand and eventually hurt Hagler in the mid to late rounds...

That's what I was kind of thinking. But also agree with tin that Hagler would still get to him based on the fact that Hagler 1) was excellent at cutting off the ring, so he would get to Hearns 2) had an effective jab to cut off distance when he did get his feet in position 3) seemed to be able to hurt Hearns with either hand, and was able to switch stances and still be effective. It wasn't just for show.

But I think we all agree Hearns would have had a better shot trying to box and move. Drop that right hand and get out of there before he catches you. You hope...

Out of curiosity. How do you think Hagler would've done against Hopkins?

That's really tough to call IMO. That's a pretty interesting match up in regard to skill sets. Bernard is tough and crafty. I think he matches up well with Hagler.

A h2h matchup at 160, I think that's very intriguing. The thing I think people tend to forget with Hagler (due to "The War") is that he wasn't a flat out brawler. The man could box and stay behind his jab. He wasn't one dimensional in his approach, and had power in both fists which made him exceptionally dangerous. He could brawl, but the guy had great footwork, would move his head coming in, and an excellent jab to setup hard blows.

Overall, I'd have to say Hagler wins. But I would think it would be a highly competitive bout that could swing in Hopkins favor. I don't think either man gets KO'd. I actually think it'd end up being a bit of a chess match. I'm not one to count an ATG out, especially these two. Would be a great match.
