There's no high profile person in boxing whose opinion I've respected more over the years than Manny Steward. But in this case, I have to disagree with him as well.
If you reread my post, my second sentence covers how he did the things you described in the fights I was already aware of. Pac's first Barrera fight and his first two with Morales are some of my favorites to watch. That doesn't change anything though, everything else remains on the level.
Yes. You're right about Hagler having more technical skill. That's a part of boxing, but so is power, speed and stamina.
Yep and Hagler may have had the best stamina in history. Calzaghe's was great too. Hagler's chin and technical skill would be the difference. That man could walk through bombs. He cut the ring off so well Manny would have a job getting away from him, and even with tremendous P4P punching power I doubt Manny could hurt Marvin. If you can take Tommy Hearns best shots you can take anyones. I don't doubt Marvin could hurt Manny though. He hit big and Manny has been KO'd thrice. It's sad that I feel the need to do this but I have to make it clear that I think Manny is exceptional. He's an absolute no doubt ATG. I just think Hagler is greater.
Pac is fighting at least two divisions above his natural weight. At 135 and below his left was a ****ing atom bomb. Hagler's left at 160 never came close to what Manny had at 135 and below.
Pacquiao has about every physical advantage here. Speed landslide. Power easy. Stamina, both have excellent stamina, but Pacquiao's ability to sustain a higher workrate and movement show he has more. Hagler has the better chin, but as a featherweight Manny had a pretty good one.
