don't like both but its clearly Hopkins................

one fighter fights the best the other in his prime and also now is ducking the best available opponents
    it HAS to be Bernard

I give props to Hopkins as he was in there with a dangerous fighter in Kovalev at this stage of his career as he kept fighting on even though he was getting banged up.

Hopkins not complaining to the ref, just kept fighting like a warrior.

both are top flight fighters of this era but Mayweather's claim to greatness is the exact opposite of Hopkins. Hopkins biggest wins are vs smaller guys moving up in weight while Mayweather's are vs bigger guys he moved up to face. Hopkins get's praised for fighting Champs while Mayweather gets bashed for it.

Just on face value I'd take Mayweather (Unbeaten, 5 Division champ, Tied for most Lineal Titles all time, & Most champs beaten all time) Both ATG's but Floyd is higher up.

    Hopkins easily...

    B-Hop never avoided anybody.

Mayweather will go down in boxing history as the worst cherry-picking ducker.

Hopkins was active for the entirety of the time that Mayweather was ranked the best fighter in the world. So, it depends on how you think Hopkins generally lower ranking adds up over the course of their respective careers. Hopkins being generally less highly regarded for longer, does it overhauls Mayweather's superior ranking generally and his superior movement through multiple weights?

It's close. Who beat better guys?

At Light Heavy Hopkins was the underdog against Tarver, Calzaghe, Pavlik, Pascal, Dawson, Cloud and Kovalev.
The man took risk after risk and won a lot of fights he was touted to lose.

Well hopkins was seen as am under appreciated technician at MW. Never really getting the credit until he beat Tito.

Floyd has been appreciated since day one.

Hopkins lost his passing of the torch fight at age 40 and what he did since then is legendary.

Floyd has been able to command big fights in his prime so has had more opportunity to fight name opponents whilst still capable of domination.

It's close really Hopkins has unified in two divisions. Has been lineal champ in 2 divisions and has constantly upset the apple cart. Would anyone be really surprised if he beat Stevenson next?

Since turning pro Floyd has had a perfect career and up until his retirement was seen as a worthy p4p king. Retiring when he did, failing to face Pac man as he has done, those things will blight his career when people look back. Yes he ultimately went on to face Cotto and Mosley and maybe he will one day face Pacman. But had he stayed active after Oscar he could have faced the likes of Margo, Williams, Cotto, Mosley and Pac completely unifying the division and eliminating all doubts.

Floyd is a great talent who has left unanswered questions. Hopkins is an age defying marvel who has fought everyone there is to fight. In terms of skill it isn't a close contest. In terms of attitude to career it is extremely debatable.

I'd probably rank Floyd higher as I place more emphasis on skill than anything else.

It's a close call but at the end of the day I'm going with the guy with the bigger set of balls. Duran's regarded so highly not because he won all his fights, but because he dared to fight the likes of Hagler and Barkley.

Hopkin's just stepped into the ring with a guy who could have seriously hurt him and at aged 49 no less, and like Duran he dominated a lower division for a long time prior to stepping up, and while he doesn't have all of Duran's attributed in terms of skills and shear ferocity, he has his balls, something Mayweather's never gonna have.
