DLH paved the way for guys like Trinidad, Vargas, Mosley, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Hopkins to all excel in this sport and take advantage of opportunities that just where not there for fighters in the late 70's and early 80's.
DLH made a huge impact on the sport and for its contestants in which future fighters who make it to the top will be able to earn what they sacrifice in the ring all for our enjoyment...............

And dont get me wrong, DLH fought in many big fights (and lost) but lets not act like he fought everyone that was better than him in the division. He never fought Vernon Forrest when he was the top man at Welterweight. Nor did he ever want to get in the ring with Winky Wright at 154 who was the number 1 contender for DLH.

It's close, but at the moment Oscar has the better one. I really don't think he lost 2 of his biggest fights. He got robbed against Tito even though he ran the last 2-3 rounds the rest was just Oscar schooling him and the second fight with Mosley was close, but Oscar clearly beat Shane the second time around.

Floyd's most significant wins gotta be Hatton and Castillo because those 2 were the best at their weight and most importantly in their primes. Of course, Floyd has that highly disputed win over Castillo in their first fight, so it's fair to say Floyd didn't win all his important fights either, but I give him props for giving him the rematch and winning.

Winky was a big risk, little reward for Oscar. I could see the business aspect of him not wanting to fight Winky. I don't think Forest and him were ever on the same page and close to fighting each other during their primes. There was always someone else to fight or weight class discrepancy

I guess that they are the last two untested semi HOF's in DLH range, and
funny is that both of them became top players after they beat Mosley 2x.

legacy don't pay bills so why should this thread matter to floyd or his worshippers?

besides, floyd still has better things to worry about like cleaning up the sport of boxing and making more money.

Mayweather! Anyone who says De La Hoya doesn't know much abotu boxing!

Most of the guys DeLaHoya beat were past their prime; Whitaker, Chavez, Camacho

He lost most of his big fights, and Mayweather won all of his biggest fights!

Mayweather's big wins; Corrales, Castillo 2x's, Gatti, Judah, Hatton, Marquez, Hernandez, Manfredy,Bladomir & De La Hoya

De La Hoya's big wins; Hernandez, Vargas, Mayorga, Quartey, Gatti... he lost to Mosley 2x's, Hopkins by ko, Trinidad, Mayweather, and Pacquiao!

Mayweather won more belts in more divisions and held the #1 P4P much longer!

So clearly Mayweather has the better legacy!

It doesn't matter if DeLaHoya fought the tougher opposition, he didn't win those big fights so it doesn't matter

Mayweather wins; Hernandez, Manfredy,Castillo, Gatti, Corley, Hatton, Judah, Corrales, Marquez, DeLaHoya... if he adds Mosley & Pacquiao to that list he'll be way above DLH!

De La Hoya wins; Whitaker, Camacho, Chavez, Vargas, Mayorga, Gatti, Quartey

Mayweather definitely beat the better opposition; whitaker, Chavez, & Camacho were old

Oscar. Oscar was also the only American to win a gold medal back in 1992.

Oscar clearly fought better fighters, only problem is he didnt beat many of them. With that being said, Im not sure that anyone would have come though the fights that Oscar had unbeatten. Hopkins, Tito, Mosley, Floyd, Pac, Chavez, Whitaker, Quartey, Molina, Hernandez, Leija, Gatti, Vargas.

**** that is impressive. Oscar had balls that for damn sure.

Floyd has a way to go to catch that. Now with that being said, Floyd wins his fights in dominate fashion, and only one of his fights can be looked at with any kind of question. And many of the fighters that Oscar fought so did Floyd. Beatting Mosley and Pac would put Floyd well ahead of Oscar in terms of legacy. WAY ahead.

I lean toward Mayweather because I feel Oscar under achieved. He wasn't as skilled as he could've been, and being a part-time fighter for the last 5 years of his career, getting stopped twice in the process hurts his legacy. If Floyd doesn't fight Pacquiao and beat him it will hurt his legacy though.

If Oscar would've finished the job against Tito and beaten Mosely, this would be easy
