if bhop beats dawson, or clearly beats taylor (assuming that taylor is top 20 p4p again) then he surpasses jones...

I disagree with this.

Hopkins resume: Trinidad, Tarver, Pavlik, Wright, De La Hoya, Holmes, Echols, Glen Johnson, Eastman, Joppy, Vanderpool, etc

Jones' resume: Toney, Hopkins, Ruiz, Hill, Tarver, Griffin, Malinga, McCallum, Gonzales, Reggie Johnson, Sosa, etc

Hopkins' resume isn't really better. Jones was typically more dominant against his opponents as well, and has superior multi-weight success.

The plus-side for Hopkins is that he has longevity over Roy and was never really embarrased like Jones was late in his career, and that makes it close, but not enough for Hopkins to rate higher IMO.

I do believe that if Hopkins were to pull off a win over Dawson, a proven top level fighter who would hold literally every physical advantage over him, than he should rank higher than Jones, without question. That would be a massive win.

Hopkins has shocked the world more often with some of his upsets. Definitely an underdog in many great fights. The only time jones surprised people was when he was getting laid out.

I would say Hopkins Resume beats RJJ.

we have yet to see who is more timeless...before they see that louis accomplish more than ali but as time goes by, ali is more timeless than joe louis thus being the best HW ever..

as of now, it is still jones..

as years go by, joe calzaghe's stock would rise. as years go by, people would realize that it would take a long time before he would be unseat as the best 168 fighter..

Agreed. Bernard's MW run was amazing but Jones had done bigger and better things in his career. Someone made a point about Bernard's biggest wins were against naturally smaller men coming up in weight.

In recent years Hopkins has closed the gap on Jones, but Jones has a slight edge.
Hopkins's long tittle regin at 160 is very impresive and so is the fact that at his age 43 or 44? he is still one of the best around. He is still active and facing the best the sport has to offer, so Hopkins can still improve on his all time Legacy. While Hopkins run as middleweight king is impresive he is hardly mentioned as "The Man" at 160. Most view Robinson, Moonzon, Hagler, or Greb as the best ever more than they would Hopkins at 160. Roy Jones is widly conserded to be the best ever at 168. There are a growing number of people who might place Calzhige above him but I think Jones would come out a head. fitzgeraldz out of your key wins for each I would rank them:
1. Jones over Toney (Toney was no worse than #3 p4p and some had him #1 at the time.) 2. Hopkins over Trinidad ( Trindad was looking very impresive at 160.) 3. Jones over Hopkins (He might have been pre prime but Hopkins was still a very good boxer at the time.) 4.Jones over Ruiz. (against a lot of other heavyweight tittlets/champions this win may by #1, still very impresive.) 4. Jones over Tarver (Yes it is true that Hopkins beat Tarver worse and never lost to him, but Jones was droping down 2 weight classes.) 5. Hopkins over DLH. (De La Hoya was by no means a real 160 lbs boxer, but he ws still really good.) 6. Hopkins over Tarver. (A very impresive ring performance by Hopkins against a guy who's best wins came over Jones who most people thought was a shell of his former self.)
It should not be about who finishes strongest but who had a better overall body of work, and I fell that right now is Jones.

BHop.

He was THE middleweight Champion of the World.

He was THE Light Heavyweight Champion of the World.

20 title defenses.

Didn't duck anyone.

Roy was a beltholder in 3 weight classes and an argument can be made that he was not THE Light Heavyweight Champion. He handpicked like a mofo and NEVER beat a unified, linear, or undisputed champion in his whole career.

BTW, why was Hopkins THE Light Heavyweight Champion of the world and Jones was not??? Did Hopkins not gain the title from beating the same man Jones once beat and lost his title to?

Double standards at its finest Rico.

Jones has accomplished way more than Hopkins at Light Heavyweight, end of story
