    Loudon, quick question for you.

I'm assuming you'd be willing to concede that if you asked this poll question in 2003, the results would be vastly different from what we're seeing here. And between then and now, the results trended to where we are now.

At what specific point did the tables shift in your opinion?

I can't speak for Loudon, but I think the poll would be much closer had Roy retired after the Tarver KO.. It was the mauling by Glen Johnson that made people shift their opinion on how good Roy used to be. In my honest opinion.

If Roy retired after the second Tarver fight, most would say Tarver was a good counter puncher that studied and had an aging Roy's number... It wasn't until after the G. Johnson loss when people started drawing conclusions that Roy couldn't handle pressure fighters.

    It's a very debatable question...

Good post, but I think Erdei was far greater than Dawson at LHW

I can see that. And it didn't help Roy's "standing" in the sense that Hopkins had already beaten Johnson.

But I still think if Jones retired after the Johnson fight that he'd have been highly regarded, but hung around 2 fights too long.

But looking at the totality of what happened to his career after that point dug the knife deeper and deeper into his reputation.

This has been a very interesting thread and has made me look at the great LHWs that have been around over recent years, maybe to make it easier we should look at the top LHWs this century to now including fighters that passed through the division

In no order though the top 3 mentioned would likely be in the top 3 in some order.

    Michalczewski
    Erdei
    Kovalev
    Jones
    Brahmer
    Hopkins
    Cleverly
    Stevenson
    Tiozzo
    Johnson
    Tarver

Just thought I would change the subject a bit

Well you can look at it in a lot of different ways. It also shows that Roy isn’t a quitter, it shows that Roy has the heart of a champion to fight when others would have given up.

I think the totality of what happened after the Johnson fight was that Roy got better. You’re saying after the Johnson fight was when the knife was dug deeper into his reputation. But how is that so : After the Johnson fight up until the Enzo fight, he only had 1 really brutal stoppage loss and that was to Lebedev at the last moment of the final round, a fight that nearly went the distance, right after Roy had Lebedev in trouble. Compared to the Tarver and Johnson KO's, I don’t see how anything after that was worse than that.

Based on LHW resumes alone out of this list, I would say Jones, DM and Hopkins are a clear cut top 3 with Kovalev Erdei and Tarver knocking on the door.. Just my opinion.

Bailey out of your list above I would say Calzaghe is an honorble mention, though he only had two fights there, it could be argued he has the single greatest win of the list over Hopkins, who had just dominated Tarver and mixed it up with the division's best nearly a decade later.

I don't possess psychic powers, but if this question was asked 6 months ago, or if it was asked 6 months into the future, I think the poll would look very different. I believe that Roy's recent knockout defeat to Enzo has had a huge effect on people's thinking. It's fresh in people's minds. I think when most people think of Roy today, they think of the Enzo defeat, and as soon as they think of Bernard, they think off his valiant effort against Kovalev, who's also currently on fans minds. That's what I believe. That's why I wanted people to do some serious digging like how I was doing. Although I obviously don't agree with the poll, it's the fact that many things were being overlooked that was pi$$ing me off.

To be honest, I don't know when the table's turned. Like I say, I think it depends what people's first thoughts are when their names are mentioned. I think if Roy hadn't have fought Enzo, the poll would be very different.

Yes, if Roy had retired in 2003, it would have been a landslide in his favour.

    This is what's ridiculous.

    This line of thinking.

How can it not be close in Bernard's favour?

People are dismissing Roy's win over Ruiz, while at the same time celebrating Bernard's wins over the likes of Winky at LHW.

    It's absolute madness.

    Again, I respect your opinions.

    Great post.

I'll admit that I don't know much about Erdei. I need to look into his career more.

Again, I was just looking from 2004.
