Better legacy Ricky Hatton or Nigel Benn

I'd say Benn but only just. I rate the McClellan win a bit higher than a slightly faded Tszyu.

 

Benn. More talented fighter and beat a better class of opponent.

 

Benn has the better legacy in my opinion. However I wouldn't close the door on Hatton just yet. Fighters have come back from crushing defeats before and have added to their legacy. He'd have to do something pretty impressive to rank above Benn in my opinion though.

 

Definitely Benn.

NB backed up his mouth with pure ability. Hatton has just been very fortunate and has been found out.

What, by the two best pound for pound fighters in the world? I voted Benn on this and he is my all time favourite British fighter, but let's have a bit of perspective, Benn never fought anyone near that level and still has more losses than Hatton.

Thats only because Hatton avoided fighting other world class fighters and chose to pick the bones of has beens and average fighters that couldn`t hurt him.

 

What could Hatton do to add to his legacy, realistically?

 

I'd have to go Hatton on this and I'm a fan of both;

Nigel Benn

Animal in his prime. Let's not dwell on the losses to the end of his career. These types of defeats dont take anything away for me (same applies to any fighter towards the end of his career when they are clearly past their best). Career defining win over G-Man after getting off the canvas twice. Two weight world champion and a nails performance against Iran Barkley. But Benn never really challenged the elite (for one reason or another). Both James Toney and RJJ were around at the time Benn moved to SMW but it didnt happen.

Similar following (albeit bigger) to Benn's and a comparable style. Difference for me is that Hatton's career win over Tszyu is bigger than the respective win Benn has on his CV. Hatton also fought and beat everyone at the weight over a four year period until he faced Floyd and Pac. There are many fights on Ricky's record early doors which inflate his numbers but I dont think there's anyone missing from Ricky's CV. I can see the win over Urango growing in importance too. Urango seems to have come into his own of late and I for one fancy him to beat Berto.

As it stands, I go Hatton. Hatton was prime at LWW Benn at MW. When Hatton stepped up he acheived as much as Been did at that higher weight (G-Man stepped up too, hence why I call it even). But at their favoured weights I think Hatton acheived more than Benn did.

I started this post thinking it was a fairly close call, but to be honest, after writing that out - I'd have to say that I cant really see an argument for putting Benn above Hatton.

I was going to make the point that Hatton had fought Thaxton is his prime whereas Khan had chosen to avoid him when he was past it. But obviously my opinions not valid because i'm a calzaghe fan.
