Kovalev A machine in his prime, a killer in the ring (beat Ward in the first fight just) also picked up belts and defended and became a three-time champion.
The Dawson that beat Adamak could get a decision. A small window for him. Outside of it, Krusher crushes.
first fight was the definition of a robbery. even ward thought he lost. people don't look as surprised and happy after winning the lottery as Ward did when they read the decision.
Dawson has the better resume, but Kov has the power to KO Dawson. Dawson should have stayed with Mayweather Sr. as his trainer.
On their best nights I'm tempted to say Dawson was a little better. Not sure though. Kovalev should hold a win against Andre Ward. But Dawson was very hot and cold. Kovalev was way more consistent, so overall I hold Kovalev to be the better fighter.
Its SK. Not even close. PRIME Dawson probably lost to Glen Johnson (first fight) & got his ears boxed off by Pascal.. He looked like guff against Diaconu too.. Most of Dawsons best wins are old fighters.. Kovalev has only ever lost* to world class operators too.. & all 4 losses happened in his 30s also.. Consider that Dawson & Kovalev are nearly the same age too.. yet look what Kovalevs been doing in comparison..
I think Dawson would outbox him but get stopped sometime after the 8th round. He didn't like being pressured and Kovalev was sufficiently fleet of foot to catch up to him eventually, though obviously as a boxer he was inferior.
Hopkins, and that was in the 12th round. I also think Dawson tended to weaken over a long, grueling fight, as he was in some trouble in Adamek and Johnson I. He'd have to be perfect and I think that's asking too much.
No one ever outboxed Kovalev. Not deck-stacking have gloves won't travel/no to neutral judges serial cheat Ward in 2 attempts, not deck-stacking poster boy for corruption in the sport Clenbuterol addict Clenelo, not B-Hop, not Pascal in 2 attempts, not Alvarez in 2 attempts, not Cleverly, not Campillo, not Sillakh etc. To quote my boy Dre ''Kovalev did it the hard way'' ie. on the road and in his opponent's backyards where everything is stacked against you and your chances of losing whether via hook or via crook are greatly increased Dre quote #2 on Kov ''Boy can box his ass off'' Dawson was an excellent boxer and I always liked him but Kov's combination of boxing ability and absolutely savage power would ultimately prove decisive and he'd win via HL reel stoppage.
