You don't factor in the relation between Mayweather and Brooks' skills and ranking when determining who had the better recent win. Otherwise, Mayweather only has lousy wins because he is a huge favorite all the time as he would be a huge favorite over any possible opponent out there... Joe Louis' win over Primo Carnera shouldn't be dismissed because he was the great up and coming Joe Louis and an 8:1 favorite. It doesn't work like that. You assess Carnera at that stage of his career, how he is viewed, and what he's done... So trying to point out Mayweather being a massive betting favorite over Maidana doesn't hold any relevance whatsoever. Mayweather/Ortiz got as close to 3:1 at fight time. Does that make the fight sooooooooo much better??

You should be comparing Maidana and Porters' skills and ranking. Not the difference in the men who beat them. Then you also factor in how the fight played out itself.

The reason why Brook was the underdog is because of how unproven he was. And there is no way that Brook DECISIVELY, without debate, had the better WW resume pre-Porter fight than Maidana did pre-Mayweather fight.

Broner for a belt, Soto Karass, and Josesito =/> Senchenko, Jones II, and Jackewiscz (sp?) ... but when you factor in that Maidana had scooped up those W's all in the previous just over a year, then yeah, probably a slight advantage to Maidana and that is ignoring his JWW credentials.

Transnational Boxing Rankings, accepted as the best out there, ranked Maidana over Brook then, and guess what?! They still rank Maidana over Brook now even after Brook's step-up victory...

Maidana did what no other fighter since Castillo has done and that's giving Mayweather a damn good fight. Maidana is the better win right now no doubt about it. Alexander won 3 rounds at most against Matthysse he fights Maidana now it will be a repeat of the Broner fight. Lucas beat Alexander just as clearly as Porter did yet he got robbed. Truth is Porter is untested himself, just not as much as Brook was, reason for everyone doubting him. He's not that much better than Porter.

Transnational boxing ranking accepted by who as the best? People who can push a Mayweather loving agenda? The Ring has been considered 'The Bible of Boxing' by many for years, but have been accused of having a GBP bias (you know Maidana's promoter)...and guess what? They ranked Brook over Maidana then......and they still rate him now:

    http://ringtv.craveonline.com/ratings/welterweight

And if you want to compare the skills of both Porter and Maidana, here is what has happened at Welterweight over the last two years:

Marcos Maidana was DECISIVELY beaten by Devon Alexander
Devon Alexander was DECISIVELY beaten by Shawn Porter
Shawn Porter was DECISIVELY beaten by Kell Brook (who hasn't been beaten by anyone)

Try and find a way round it all you want, but Maidna's one sided loss to Alexander should not just be ignored due to a win over Broner who had 1 solitary UN-DECISIVE win at welterweight over Paulie (another guy who was DECISIVELY beaten by Brook victim Porter). Because if we forget everything that happened from Maidana's win over Soto Karass on, then Mayweather doesn't belong at number 1 himself.
