If we're talking one-punch KO power, I gotta go with JuanMa. Gamboa is more wild and maybe more exciting for some, but Lopez seems to be a much more complete fighter at this stage. Both are KO artists, though, love to watch them both.
In terms of pure power, probably Lopez, but in terms of overall offensive arsenal, Gamboa. Lopez is the more calculated, mature fighter at this stage though. I sstill see Gamboa going on to greater things. He has too much talent not to expect big things, even if he doesn't live up to his potential. I see Lopez being like a boxer-puncher version of Cotto rather than a pressure fighter. He'll eventually be taken out after continuing to build his hype with some impressive performances, possibly by Gamboa. Impressive power, but I'd like to see him in against a skill technician before judging fully, as his skills haven't really impressed me the way they seem to have others.
I too think Gamboa will go on to do greater things (I think it'll be a long time before someone beats him)...but I think he's too wild to deal with JuanMa. Lopez would probably pick him to pieces assuming that Gamboa fights the way he does. Styles wise I don't think Gamboa would do well with Lopez. In a sense, I think it'd turn out to be similar to MAB against Nas barring a massive change in philosphy from Gamboa.
Lopez isn't that technically skilled IMO, at least from what we've seen thus far, and his speed is pretty lacking, especially in comparison to Gamboa. Gamboa needs to iron out his kinks, I agree, but I think just the opposite in terms of style matchups, as long as Gamboa matures accordingly. I think his constant workrate, pressure, speed, and power will be a severe issue for JuanMa being able to pick his spots and get off like usual (mostly due to his speed disadvantage), even if he could catch and hurt him at some point. Both of these guys have a lot to prove, but I see Gamboa as having the far superior potential.
I don't think he's a tremendous technical fighter (yet) but I think he's more technically skilled than Gamboa..or at least he uses his technical better in a better capacity than Gamboa does if that makes sense. Gamboa is such an outstanding talent that much like RJJ did in his prime, He seems happy to rely on that at the expense of other things. Gamboa could easily use his speed, superior footwork and pressure to bedazzle JuanMa for 12 rounds (or potentially a KO) but I could see JuanMa essentially goading Gamboa into a fistfight and hurting Gamboa. Yuriorkis seeems to have the Erik Morales sort of "How dare you ****ing punch me?" attitude about him which could spell trouble against a wise counter puncher with power.
True, but I can't count JuanMa as having the ability to take advantage of this, not at this stage anyway. But, I'm more or less considering a future matchup between the two, when they've both ironed out their kinks and proven themselves a bit more, primarily Gamboa, as he still has control issues to work out, whereas JuanMa seems to be pretty set in his style.
True it'll be interesting to see what happens between the two in the future. We're also not considering that JuanMa would have to go UP in weight to face Gamboa..and could lose a bit in the power or speed category. Potential for Potential though obviously points in Gamboa's favor. Gamboa has top 150 ATG potential if he irosn out his kinks...where as JuanMa at the end of the day will probably max out as a great fighter.
