I think that Muhammad Ali and Oscar De La Hoya fought the best opposition of any boxers since 1960 who fought better opposition? Keep in mind who they fought and when they fought them
Ali beat the better fighters, while Oscar fought the better fighters. As good as the likes of Frazier, Foreman, Liston and Patterson are by Heavyweight standards, they're just not a better group than prime or close to prime versions of Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad. Add very past it but still world class versions of Pernell Whitaker and Julio Cesar Chavez and it's just a done deal. Oscar has fought the best array of fighters since the time of the Fab 4, so like, of the last 40 years or so.
Voted Ali but damn it's close I mean facing Mayweather and Pacquiao at their best alone is outstanding
Oscar fought better fighters the best guy Ali fought was Frazier after that they’re all just solid. De La Hoya on the other hand had a murderers row of names.
Regardless of wins, lets see the top 5 of each fighter.. Muhammad Ali- Larry Holmes, George Foreman, Joe Fraizer, Sonny Liston, Ken Norton Oscar De La Hoya- Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquaio, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Pernell Whitaker It's close, but I'd probably give the edge to DLH.
Floyd is top 10, Manny is top 20 if not 10, and Whitaker is top 30 at worst. I don't think Ali even fought a top 30 guy.
Floyd, Manny, Mosley, Tito, Pernell, Chavez, Hopkins, Camacho, Gatti, Leija, Miguel Gonzalez, Vargas, and Quartey. Oscar's comp blows Ali's outta the water imo.
