This does need a little context, though. Ali was never robbed of a fight he won, but De La Hoya for mine clearly won Trinidad & the Mosley return fight, while Ali lost at least the Norton rubber match, some would argue Young (I wouldn’t). De La Hoya had close fights he got the nod in but the only inarguable, clear robbery was Sturm. If these three outcomes are put right things balance out more.
We know how great Ali was - but this thread serves an excellent reminder of just how great ODLH was. Such a great, snappy jab that he abandoned somewhat in his later years - probably due to his declining stamina. I was rooting for PacMan when they fought (no hate on Oscar) but the weight drain obviously took a heavy toll on DLH.
ODLH's Opposition Manny Pacquiao prime. Floyd Mayweather Jr prime. Bernard Hopkins prime. Ike Quartey prime. Felix Sturm prime. Shane Mosley x2 prime. Felix Trinidad prime. Pernell Whitaker still good but past it. Julio Cesar Chavez considerably past it. Fernando Vargas prime and was juiced. Arturo Gatti prime. Ricardo Mayorga past it. Genaro Hernandez prime. John John Molina prime. Jesse James Leija prime. Rafael Ruelas prime. Jorge Paez past it. Miguel Angel Gonzalez prime. Hector Camacho considerably past it. Wilfredo Rivera prime. Oba Carr prime. Yory Boy Campas past it. Muhammad Ali Opposition Joe Frazier prime for their 1st fight. George Foreman prime. Sonny Liston x2 past it but still good. Archie Moore very ancient and shot by this point. Larry Holmes prime. Ken Norton x3 prime. Leon Spinks prime. Trevor Berbick prime. Floyd Patterson x2 prime for their 1st fight. Doug Jones prime. George Chuvalo x2 prime. Cleveland Williams considerably past it after the shooting. Ernie Terrell prime. Henry Cooper prime. Jerry Quarry x2 prime. Ron Lyle prime. Zora Folley a bit past it but still good. Oscar Bonavena prime. Jimmy Ellis prime. Bob Foster prime but above his best weightclass. Joe Bugner x2 prime. Jimmy Young. Earnie Shavers. Overall ODLH faced better opposition but Ali has the better resume in regards to wins.
