Its crime but I was asking for HW comparison only since no one beside Holyfield have fought at cruiser.
How on earth can anyone have Tyson over Lewis for opposition? It says something when Williams is being listed for Tyson and Bruce Seldon. But Gary Mason gets left off Lewis' resume....believe Mason was better and a far bigger danger than Williams has ever been. It is also worth including what happened in these fights. Peter Buckley has fought better competition than any other pro in the world at this moment. He has also lost about 150 fights and won about 10. On Tysons top opponent list there was Holyfield, Lewis, Douglas, Williams. He lost to all of them and beat none of them. And the Golota fight was a farce.
I Am English And I Am Not Biased At All, If A Guy Is American Or Indian Doesnt Matter To Me. I Thought Holyfield Has The Toughest Opponent List For Me And He Is My All Time Favourite Boxer. However I Think Lewis Was A Better All Round Boxer And If I Was A Heavyweight Tyson Would Have Been The Guy I Would Have Feared The Most.!!!!!!
Though he may not quite get there, I would like to suggest another name with a grand total of, in my estimation, 33 points: GEORGE FOREMAN Joe Frazier (3) Joe Frazier 2cnd fight (2) Ken Norton (2) Michael Moorer (2) Ron Ryle (2) Jerry Cooney (2) other interesting lesser contenders like Chuck Wepner (1) George Chavulo (1) Joe Roman (1) Alex Stewart (1) Pierre Coetzer (1) Addilson Rodriguez (1) Axel Schultz (1) Lou Savarese (1) Bert Cooper (1) And often excting, sometimes controversial losses to Muhammed Ali (3) Jimmy Young (2) Evander Holyfield (3) Tommy Morrison (1) Shannon Briggs (2) If you would be generous enough to throw in dwight Muhammed Qwawi and JB Williamson for thier accomplishmets at lighter weights, maybe call Moorer and/or Norton top dogs, then Foreman acually gets there as the guy who fought the best.
While head to head and ATG wise I favor Lewis, I don't believe that he's faced the stiffest competition of the bunch. I'd have to give the nod to Holyfield, followed by Holmes, then Lennox, then Tyson. And you can take Wlad's name off that list. Not his fault, but he doesn't belong anywhere on this list.
Welcome to East Side Boxing new guy. We're happy to have you and we look forward to you growing with us as a boxing fan. So tell us...when will you be watching your first boxing match?
Its clear that the person who has faced the stiffer competition will be the 2nd best boxer. This is glaringly obvious as the best boxer didnt have to face himself
Holyfield's was the best, but if one considers how each FARED against said competition, Lewis tops the rest.
But the tricky part is that its not surprising Lewis looks better since his competition was worse. Its not obvious that Lewis would won 3x with Bowe or 2x with Tyson at the time Holyfield was fought them. If Lewis have lost at least once with Bowe and once with Tyson hes resume wouldn't be so good.
Well, we have to work with the facts, no? Yes, Holyfield has the best resume, but he also did not fare especially well (over all) against said competition, having been bested by Bowe in 2 of 3, and he lost to Lewis along with a bogus draw. Lewis beat every man he ever faced. Tyson, I think can safely be excluded from this discussion altogether. So does Holyfield's quality of opposition make his resume better? Only if we ignore the results.
Thats the idea, Holyfield fougth better opposition so he faced bigger challenge and lost more than Lewis whose competition overall was weaker and challenge lower so he had better results.
I too pick Holyfield in terms of best opposition. In terms of who did the best against the opposition they fought, that would be Lewis.
