There's not much point debating who had the better career or who had more prime physical talent between these two, because it's Oscar hands down. But by 2007 Oscar was a semi-retired boxer who was fighting once a year, coming off of a KO win over, in Lampley's words, "the most willing target in the sport". Marquez on the other hand, although he has slowed noticeably, comes into 2009 off of two much more relevant wins, plus a classic fight in which he gave the P4P #1, and in the minds of some a guy approaching "boxing legend" status, everything he could handle. Is it really all that crazy to believe that '09 Marquez brings more to the table than '07 Oscar? Leave Floyd, styles, and size out of the equation for a second and think this one over.
I was thinking more 97 Oscar but 07 would definitely be a decent war none the less. If 07 Oscar showed his great jab and L hook that year(which he didn't) then I'd worry a bit for the affectiveness of JMM famous flurries.
JMM is a better fighter than DLH pound per pound (at any point in time) DLH was better managed and has more crossover appeal. JMM (except for some defense improvements) is almost a textbook perfect boxer. The only criticism that I give to JMM is the fact that he tends to fight at the level of the oposition. Compare that to DLH who destroys fighters that are below his level.
This one is hard I could say that DLH's power was deminished and his endurance wasnt all that great. On the other hand JMM's power has increased but how is it at welter? His endurance is incredible but @ welter? I think ODL had more physical advantages that that JMM wont have but JMM has more fight left in him, more heart, and more pride. JMM TKO 07 DLH!
