well if you know what they do I don't know how you can say they enhance a boxer's performance. regardless of how effective they are as a whole, they are designed to suppress agressiveness, impulsiveness, fears, etc... not great for a fighter who must react instinctively, implulsively, and aggressively to what transpires in a fight. I don't know about what he was on, but there are some which clearly do work (though i agree they're all worthless for long term benefit unless someone is severely ****ed up). I'm not saying tyson was docile, nor that the drugs were the most significant factor, but he looked pretty tame compared to other performances even early on (where he was trying to be aggressive but just looked uncharacteristically weak and ineffectual)
it is an illness that can be either genetically or enviornmentally caused. it doesn't make him a "pussey". "somewhat bad assed" ...lol but if your point is that he's made some "weak minded" decisions especially outside the ring, obviously you have a point
Well, if you punch a bag it is easier to be aggressive against it. When you fight a **** fighter it is easier to be aggressive. When you fight a good one it is harder. And so on.
he looked utter **** and not everything was b/c he was fighting lennox (who was 36 and started off cautiously as usual - translation if tyson could've been effective/agressive early on he could have showed some life at least). and it wasn't just cuz of the meds but they didn't help. if u think that was the same tyson from fights around that time, then forget it
When Tyson got his ass whooped by Buster Douglas I was pissed as a Tyson fan, but looking back on it, he beat the living **** out of Tyson and I enjoy watching it now, lol.
I think Holyfield. By the time Lewis fought him Mike was not motivated. Buster caught Mike when Mike did not train and was taking things for granted. Evander I think really took all Mike had and showed he had more speed than Mike, which does not take away from Mike Mike is one of the top 10 heavyweights in history. I love all Mike did. Had Mike found a way to go to the body of Evander that would have been great, but Evander proved to be just as strong physically as Mike and a little faster.
You do know that the med thing is not new, right? Read his psych report. Lewis hurt him in the first round after Tyson rushed in.
I agree with this both Douglas and Lewis caught an out of shape Mike, while Holyfield had a fully focused Mike fresh out of prison and still with that invincible ora about himself... Had the two fought in 91 with Tyson 100% in shape.. that would have been a war but Holyfield still would have won style wise he would always beat mike and back then Holyfield was much much faster, and had a much higher work rate, so did mike though and honestly both would not have been the same had they met during those days... that would have been a war that would more than likely would never have been surpassed.
i'm sure he's had a diagnosis for many years. all i know is that he was contractually obligated to be on meds for this fight in light of what happend at the face off press conference and that tyson looked worse than he ever looked before or after and didn't seem himself and it wasn't solely b/c of lewis and certainly not b/c lewis may have hurt him in the first (been years since i seen it but i recall tyson arguably won the first thru sheer activity and attempted aggression)
I don't really agree with that. Post prison Tyson had fought barely any rounds at all before facing Holyfield, who Tysons team had lined up as they thought he was shot. Post prison Tyson had: The McNeeley cocoon of horror fight. DQ1 Busther Mathis Jr: KO Rd 3. A terrified Bruno. KO Rd 3. The alleged fixed fight with Seldon. KO 1. So, not even 8 full rounds. And absolutely ZERO resistance in any of thost fights. The last fight in the ring Tyson had been tested was FIVE years ago. in that 5 years, he hadn't even boxed 8 full rounds. And you're trying to tell me that version of Tyson was better than the one that lost to Douglas? Based on what exactly? I honestly struggle to find 1 good win for Tyson post prison. Maybe Bruno, as he had the WBC belt. But he was fighting with 1 eye and obviously bricking it from the first Tyson fight. Tysons entire post prison career was nothing more than smoke and mirrors, in an obvious money making attempt. I don't blame him, that's the best way of going about it really. Tysons 'unbeatable' aura had gone, so best make some money before the first good fighter he faces smashes it even further. I think Tysons team underestimated how much Holy had left, and way over estimated just how much Tyson had left. No he didn't. He wasn't seen as invincible, he'd lost to Douglas, had 2 good, competitive fights with Razor Ruddock, and been banged up for years. Far from an invincible aura.
