I saw the "will of the wisp" Willie Pep prior to his plane crash when he was unhittable...Next to the more savage punching WW Ray Robinson, Willie was the best fighter I ever saw, hands down...I would place Pep above Whitaker P4P solely on his record of nearly 200 bouts as a topnotcher, cleaning up a FW division of great fighters, with the possible exception of the preying mantis as Sandy Saddler was described..Willie lost a few steps after his terrible injuries in the plane crash in 1947, allowing Saddler to beat Pep twice... H2H with Pernell, I cannot pick a winner as Whitaker was a lightweight, whilst Pep at his peak was 126 pounds...
Pep. One of the greatest records of all time. H 2 H its very close. Wish we had more prime footage of Pep.
What on God's Green earth are some of you talking about here. How can Pep be better p4p when he never moved up in weight like Pernell did. Ohh that's right... Please show me Pep moving up in weight to the same degree as Whitaker did and winning titles in the process. whitaker went all the way up to Light Middle... Ready set GO
Its not about Welter vs Feather here Kurupt, but fictional pound for pound ability. Some fighters bodies, bone structure and all increase as their age changes, others bodies reach their ranges earlier and stay there. That's apples and oranges.
