If you look at Golota in his prime vs Adamek today, who possesses the better skill set in the ring?

    Golota no doubt

Adamek has the chin, heart and mentality over Golota

but Golota has the better boxing skill far and beyond.

Have we seen Adamek's prime yet? He may have come into the ring with less talent than Golota, but Adamek's tool box is still growing. In any event, this is all academic. Adamek's accomplishments, have already easily surpassed those of Golota's.

A more fitting prime for prime comparison would be Adamek vs. Michalczewski.

Golota was far more talented no doubt. One of the top talents of the 90s.

Adamek is still improving though with each passing fight, but I don't think he will reach the talent level of Golota.

But Golota lacked the mentality, which Tomek has.

I'd take DM. If Paul Briggs could give Adamek hell, DM would have beaten him.

I've heard that Tomasz Adamek is not very well known in Poland, is that true?

DM is a huge star though, or so I have heard.

Golota. The man could have been something special if he just possessed half of Adamek's mental fortitude (or stability for that matter).

This could be the case. Adamek has never fought a big fight there, although thesame could be said for Michalczewski. Even when Adamek fought for the minor belt against Pineda, he was playing second fiddle to Golota (against Bates), as the main event. DM could be excused because Polish boxing events during his reign were difficult to organize at a large, elite level. Now, it seems boxing in Poland has grown exponentially (a lot of this is indirectly linked to Golota) and I believe Poland to be the 3rd largest boxing organizer in Europe today (behind Germany and England) and this likely translates to being the 4th largest boxing destination in the world today.

Regardless of Michalczewski's countless title defenses, mostly against poorly known European fighters, you could already make a solid case for Adamek being the most accomplished polish boxer, ever. On the other hand, Adamek's career is only in its middle point, so this judgment may be premature.

Golota was a FORCE in the ring...too bad his mental skill could not match his physical tools.

    Makes sense :good

I know some polish people, those that I have talked to know very well about Golota and DM, but not of Adamek. They also think DM is probably the smartest out of all sportsmen in Poland. He's supposedly very well off today :thumbsup

It's plain to see that Adamek has improved significantly since then. Also, Briggs was one of the toughest customers you can find...just as tough as Adamek.

I have no doubt about his wealth. He was a boxing sensation, both in Poland and in Germany. That said, there are other extremely wealthy and even better known athletes in Poland like Jerzy Dudek (Liverpool and Real Madrid goalkeeper), Robert Kubica ( F1 driver), Adam Malysz (one of the most decorated ski jumpers in history) and Mariusz Pudzianowski (most Strongman wins ever).
