Actually love this question…gonna hand it to Povetkin for being more consistent. But it’s a close one.
When looking at a boxer's overall career I always take into account their amateur record Jimmy Ellis also was a golden gloves winner and former sparring partner of fellow Louisville resident Cassius Clay/Ali as professional his resume is better compared to Alexander Povetkin and the case could be made that Ellis was a more skilled boxer, as an amateur Povetkin won a World Championship title and is also an Olympic Gold Medallist as a professional he also has more knockouts on his resume however his performance against Wladimir Klitschko was a poor one. I would say as amateur I'd go with Povetkin and as a professional I'll say Ellis for his competitive record and level of opposition with respectable wins over Oscar Bonavena, Jerry Quarry and Floyd Patterson and George Chuvalo and even the boxers he lost too were great the first fight with Joe Frazier is one of my favourite knockouts. He lost to Muhammad Ali , Earnie Shavers, Ron Lyle, Joe Bugner and Joe Frazier again which shows the depth of his professional record.
