Here's one I've always wondered about. Who do you guys think had a better resume Arguello or Chavez. From my perspective, Chavez had more wins against top opponents while Arguello beat better opposition so seems kinda like a toss up depending on what you value more. But would love to hear other people's perspective.

To me its Chavez based on Julio fighting several ATG's closet to their prime. Even though many of these victories are controversial or he lost later in his career they were mega events.
    * A killer version of ODLH at 140lbs. Oscar was 21–0 with 19 KOs
    * Young hard punching Kostya Tszyu on a tear making a comeback after the Vince Philips loss. At that time KT was 23-1, 19 KO
    * Prime versions of Pernell Whittaker 32–1 (15 KO) and Meldrick Taylor 24–0–1 (14 KO)

Beat downs vs excellent fighters like Mario Martinez 33-1, Edwin Rosario 31-2 and Greg Haugen 32-4 and the retreating Macho Camacho 40-1.

Arguello's fights at 126 and 130 were not as well publicized at JCC's career which probably does affect things. Alexis fought tough nuts like Escalera and Olivares who were very good opposition but a little seasoned into their careers. I rate like Alexis's run at 135 highly though. I think his wins vs Jim Watt was great and Ray Mancini who often gets smashed on the boards as a puffed up name. Ray was so tough and he gave Arguello hell, he was young and strong as heck and 20-0 14 KOs at that time. Plus the 2 Pryor fights which he did lose but were fought at the highest level of boxing possible.

A past prime Julio fighting overweight against a prime ATG Whitaker and holding him to a draw is one of the most underrated performances of the latter half of the 20th century.

I don't think there's much to choose between them TBH Ruben Olivares is the best name out of both lists although Olivares wasn't as successful as a Featherweight.

They even have a few of the same names regarding their most notable wins, honestly as i said not much to choose between it's whatever you think overall i believe.

It was a nuanced and often misunderstood fight. Chavez can be argued to have won it but certainly holding Whitaker to a draw was a great achievement unto itself.

I respect your opinion and you are very knowledgeable.
I remember watching that fight being excited because I thought it was going to be an awesome fight.
And I just remember Pea just shutting him down rather pretty easily.

I love Chavez but they were comparable in age and both blow up lightweights fighting at 147 and whatever the decision officially was it was no draw.

I've always been a fan of Alexis Arguello. And I found Chavez to be a bit of a frontrunner.

But Chavez clearly beat better opponents.

Hell, I'd take Hector Camacho to run through just about everyone/if not all the names listed under Arguello's best wins above (Camacho beat a decent amount of them as it was - Ray Mancini, Boza Edwards, Jose Luis Ramirez, Bazooka Limon).

I don't even know if Arguello could've beaten Camacho. Alexis struggled with fairly ordinary light-punching boxers like Vilomar Fernandez.

I'm not a big Chavez fan, mainly due to his personality. But he was force inside the ring and his resume is superior to Arguello's.

Flip a coin, no wrong answer. Really depends on whose list of names they both beat is more impressive to you.

Arguello is my all time favorite boxer of all time but I personally think Chavez edges him achievement wise.

Certainly wouldn't get my knickers in a knot over this one. Tossing a coin would be reasonably valid if even minorly undecided.
