I think people like to conveniently forget that Sheika beat Glen Johnson right before facing Calzaghe.

marquez is more accomplished then those 3 guys you asked me to add to the list
alex bunema i cant speak for but id assume hes more dangerous than most of the fighters on calzaghe's resume

the loses dont mean anything because my original intent is to compare
    who has beaten better competition

    joe calzaghe or jermain taylor

so maybe i used the wrong words as far as your definitions go

shut your whining ass up.... im not trying to force any thoughts down anyones throat... i left the thread open for choice and discussion

Marquez is pony, sorry but that is just a fact. Bunema you cannot speak for and yet you are prepared to assume that he is more dangerous than most Calzaghe opponents? I think that basically sums up this whole thread. Pathetic.

Bunemas record would suggest he's NOT better than Woodhall, Shieka, Reid etc so why assume he is?

I'll give the edge to Calzaghe. However, it's based mostly on his work from 2006 on. Lacy, Kessler, and Hopkins were all really good fighters. Bika was a solid fighter with an awkward style. His resume before that was very suspect. Let's look at some of Calzaghe's "big wins" prior to 2006 according to his fans on this forum.

Richie Woodhall; Woodhall was knocked out by Keith Holmes at MW, a fighter that Hopkins worked over(Woodhall was losing by a far margin before being stopped). He also lost to Beyer a year before fighting Calzaghe. Woodhall may have won a title at SMW, but he wasn't championship material in a relatively week MW division.

Charles Brewer; Brewer was knocked out in 3 rounds by Echols a year before facing Calzaghe. Echols moved up from MW in that fight and was coming off his second thrashing at the hands of Hopkins. Again, another fighter who only won a title because he fought in a terrible divison.

Byron Mitchell; This guy had no notable wins and was coming off a loss to Ottke when he fought Calzaghe. To make matters worse, he was knocked out in 4 rounds by Richard Hall in his very next fight after Cazlaghe. Richard Hall is the guy that Roy Jones embarrased several years earlier. Hall was coming off of 3 straight losses(inlcuding one to prospect Shaun George) when Brewer fought him.

Robin Reid; I can't say much about him, I've only seen his fight against Lacy. He also lost to Malinga two fights before Calzaghe. He seems like a decent fighter.

Luckily, Cazlaghe stepped it up in 2006. His resume before that was trash. Taylor is closer to Calzaghe than he should be in terms of resume.

Of course, maybe eve top 5, and that's why this thread should have been a non-starter as he would be nowhere near Calzaghe's top 10 opponents.

    Reg,

You can also go through Taylors 'B' list of Marquez, Spinks and Ouma and rip their middleweight credentials to bits. They'd all been KO'd a lowers weights before they fought Taylor and have not done much of note since fighting Taylor, in most cases despite dropping back down in weight.

Did I not say that Calzaghe had a better resume? However, Calzaghe's resume pre 2006 was terrible. Guys like Brewer, Woodhall, and Reid weren't that good.

Many of the the European posters wont be willing to admitt it but its actaully pretty even in terms of thier resumes. And to be honest its the reason that some dont give Calzaghe the credit that he should get.

I'm not saying you didn't but I merely made the point that if Woodhall, Reid, Brewer had questionable records then so did the comparable names on Taylors record.
