Most of the time, they lost and have no where else to move but up, or they cannot make weight. That's the reality of "Moving up in weight". You, and many other here, have romanticized the idea of moving up to suit who you root for.

But since you brought up Ward, when exactly was the fight able to be made? When Ward was injured and wanted a 50-50 split?

if you look carefully at his career he won his outright one from IBF by koing lemmy, and the other two were awarded to him outside the ring.
he did though win a vacant reg belt, i think or ibo one, might have been interim, but everyone knows these do not count.
