Better Resume- Floyd Mayweather or Rocky Marciano?

Mayweather has the better resume. But, Marciano is the better fighter.

Floyd by a country mile. Mayweather's pre-DLH career alone is substantially better than Marciano's, let alone its entirety. Marciano was 7-0 in title fights, Floyd was 26-0 in title fights. Marciano's ledger is full of old men.

 

It’s impossible to compare their resumes, since one was a career heavyweight and the other fought from super featherweight to light middleweight.

 

Floyd. Every day of the week and twice in Sunday..

 

Floyd essentially beat Manny Pacquiao twice, once when Pac was in his prime and so mentally destroyed by the thought of challenging Mayweather that he quit in negotiations solely over taking a drug test, and then again when he came crawling back to Mayweather after being humbled by a man Mayweather won 12 round to 0 against. And, lest we forget, Pacquiao is a really great fighter. Not a lot of people know him anymore but he's not just some obscure guy from the Asia and such as. He was a real near-top p4p guy at one point.

 

Floyd.

Floyd fought 17 fighters who won world titles above LW. 18 who fought for a world title above LW. Counting the Savold/Louis lineage Marciano won 12 HW title fights and when you factor in rematches beat 12 total top HWs. In both cases they were just about the easiest 12 a HW champion could have fought.

Ironically despite all the **** Floyds gotten for beating legends past their prime Louis and Charles are more egregious examples of this then anything on Floyds resume. The closest any of Marcianos ATG opponents were to their prime was 38 year old Archie Moore.

Floyds opponents trended small for his weight classes but hes still 3-0 against MW champions. 2 of whom won these titles after Floyd fought them. For a WW great thats not really a problem. Marciano being a 5'10 brawler who won during HWs smallest era and won over a mixture of small and old people is a problem.

Floyd left opponents on the table but his weight classes were great he was always going to leave opponents on the table. Marcianos era had depth but the main reason his era had depth is his failure to fight anyone new.

Floyd both retired early but Floyd came back and Marciano didn't. Marcianos days on top were numbered. If Floyds whole life didn't revolve around being undefeated he could have contended for titles deep into his 40s.

 

Crap, I love love Rocky and even I say Floyd.

We can still compare the quality and the depth.

 

My comment was preemptive for something that doesn't seem like it's going to happen, and, you know, that's a pretty healthy sign that I wasn't expecting, so, you know, that's good, and all that then there.

 

It's Mayweather but it's a case of longevity and depth. Marciano has at least two wins better than any of Floyd's imo, but Floyd has like 10+ which are better than almost everything Marciano has. Moore and Charles - even by that point - were the two best guys beaten by either imo; and Walcott isn't too far behind them. But are those three as impressive a collective as Pac, DLH, Cotto, etc? Not imo.
