Canelo fought a bunch of B-level fighters too.........in fact the only time he stepped up he was outclassed.
... which would make Duhaupas, Molina, Szpilka etc. C or D level. It really doesn't matter what is a B or a C class level as long as we are consistent. My reasoning is something like this: A+, prime p4p level opponent (think Kovalev, Ward, GGG, Loma, Gonzalez etc.) A, good world champion fighter A-, very strong contender / weaker world champion B+, strong contender, top 5/10 B, decent contender, top 10/20 C, top 50/100 fighter D, journeyman Obviously some exceptions eg. Charles Martin.
I had him A- / B+. You might consider that generous but I don't think I was any less generous to Wilder's opponents. Lemiuex was not a strong world champion but he's still clearly better than Duhaupas, Molina, Szpilka. He's also #4 boxrec for what it's worth.
The terms A level fighter, B level fighter, etc. aren't supposed to be divided into + and -. An A level fighter is someone that is proven and believed to be on the championship level. B level fighter is someone who really isn't championship material. C level are guys who nobody ever heard of. D level of course are journeyman. It is rare that a champion fights C level opponents but Wilder and GGG have been.
Your post is contradictory. How can something be an opinion and be wrong? An opinion is a point of view that is neither right nor wrong.
That's fair enough, but not everyone fits neatly into the boxes. I've seen the + and - used here before. And you said Lemiuex/Murray/Rubio/Geale are B/C level. B level maybe, but they are still guys people have heard of, and to be honest they are all quite good for B level fighters.
My definition, A = elite, Champs who can beat champs, consistently defend their title and have few flaws. Ex, Pacquiao, mayweather B = good, fighters who can win a belt but are not elite enough to maintain it in the long run, and Lose to another champs, they have skills but exposable flaws. Ex, froch, cleverly C = gatekeeper, fighters who have some skill and give the occasional great fight to a top opponent. Ex, Darnell Boone, Curtis stevens D = not good, a virtual punching bag, a showcase opponent for a top fighter. A bad fighter who will make a top fighter look good. Ex. Dominic brazeale, wade
How in the hell did a thread like this pop up...talking about a comparison between a heavyweight and a Middleweight lol...?
I dont even pay attention to the HWs. 135 to 175. These are the only 6 weight divisions i tune in to watch.
The funny thing is A few gatekeepers have pull off upsets and beaten Elite/Good fighters in the past. Thats the beauty of boxing. Anything can happen. Thats the part i truly love about this sport .
