How many close controversial Decisions did Vitali have? How many savage KO wins did Ruiz have? Vitali didn’t need Don King’s judges to ‘win’ fights. He also had to sit out for 4 years of his Prime yet still was able to be champion again.
good discussion but not what was asked? It’s ok to knockout sosnowski and the like. and not like the klits were squeaky clean either.
Ruiz has the better names on his win record imo because of old Holyfield mostly, but he sure as heck hasn't got the better resume overall with 9 losses and a KO loss in 19 seconds to David Tua.
Because you claim that Fury is great because he beat Wlad. Who was 40, but Sanders is crap even though he beat young Wlad.
I had Holy up before Ruiz got arguably a 10-7 round in round 11, followed by a 10-9 round in round 12. 4 point swing. Had Ruiz winning against Golota by the skin of his teeth. Had Golota way ahead after 6 rounds but he stopped fighting and let Ruiz win 5-6 of the last 6 rounds. Ruiz landed all the solid blows from round 7-12. But I can see how people had Golota winning.
Yes, how you win does matter. But I'm not talking about whether a win versus a past prime is better than versus a journeymen, which is where you went with this. And your hypothetical about Peter or Rahman again has NOTHING to do with this. And now you are going back to entertainment value.... which had NOTHING to do with what I was saying or even talking about. Hence my statement about you going al over the place. When I am talking about HOW you win matters is in this example: Fighter A squeaks by with a very close SD. Another fighter wins by a WIDE UD over THE SAME GUY. You get that, the same guy. And you are saying a SD win over Fighter A is the same as a clear UD or KO over fighter A. WHile the win column looks the same, that's the ONLY part that is equal. Geez...
I have followed the thread and am going with Vitali, because yes, most of Ruiz' best were screwjobs, and yes, it matters. I will say though that Vitali does not crack my top twenty because of his light resume.
I never thought very much of Ruiz and for good reason, but Vitali's resume is rice paper thin and brings to mind one word,,Overrated.
And sanders was ancient and fat? Rahman knocked him out. Of course it’s easier to knock out lower class opposition and look good. Why has this moved to wlad an fury? Weirdos man. Sheesh. ruiz beat Rahman who has sanders, Lewis etc on his resume.
Vitalis top wins 1.Samuel Pater (Wbc champ, at his finest hour of career after KTFO Maskaev) 2.Corrie Sanders (Wbo champ at his finest hour of career after KTFO Wlad) 3.Herbie Hide (2 time Wbo champ huge puncher) 4.Juan Carlos Gomez (Great cruiser top contender at HW) 5.Chris Arreola (Undefeated puncher) 6. Odlanier Solis (Undefeated Olympic champion) 7.Tomasz Adamek (too small for HW as it turned out , top contender) 8.Kirk Johnson (top contender, came over weight) 9.Derek Chisora (coming of controversial Helenius(top contender at that time) defeat) John Ruiz Top wins 1. Evander Holyfield (WBA champion legend, on downward spiral of his ATG career, rematch of controversial first bout) 2. Hasim Rahman ( Former champion coming of 2 loses and draw and not at his best shape) 3. Kirk Johnson (undefeated top contender) 4. Jameel McCline (hard to comment gave Peter problems in early rounds) 5. Andrew Golota (coming of draw vs Byrd) 6. Fres Oquendo (coming of loss to Byrd controversial) 7. Tony Tucker (at end of his career 39 To me it still looks like Vitali has better wins. Ruiz has better known names (Holyfield, ) but they were not at their best career path when he defeated them. Except Johnson, and I don't believe Jonson lost confidence after that defeat. Vitali top wins are against guys that have wining streaks and career is going upward, yes even Sanders, who was 38 as he had just beaten Wlad, heir to Lewis throne, and was very confident at that particular time. Imo Vitali has better wins. If question is who has more recognizable names than Holyfield win does it for ruiz All others I don't see difference in name value.
