good response. When you analyse it, vitali got more guys on the upward swing despite being perhaps a tier lower, whereas Ruiz generally got a better name on a downward slope..

    good man

Is that so? Lets have a look.

Sam Peter was beaten by Eddie Chambers after the Vitali loss. He never beat another contender in his career. In fact the only contender he ever beat was James Toney who was pushing 40 , and he needed two attempts to win convincingly. His career was going downward , not upward.

Corrie Sanders wasn't the WBO champ , he lost that belt during the year he spent out of the ring between Wlad and Vitali. His career was winding up when he ktfo Wlad. He turned up in bad shape against Vitali to collect a retirement chequer. His career as obviously on downward.

Herbie Hide won the WBO from a 1997 version of Tony Tucker. TWO years earlier Tucker had been annihilated by BRUCE SELDON.
Hide was ktfo by Joseph Chingangu just two fights after Vitali and then disappeared into obscurity. His career went nowhere.

None of those guys were on the way upward.

Evander remained relevant in the division for a further 10 years , yet you claim he was the one on a downward spiral.:facepalm:

Look at Siarhei Liakhovich's win over Brewster.

Brewster stopped a better Wlad than the one who lost to Sanders.
He defend Wlads WBO belt against Meehan. Destroyed Golota in one round and stopped Luan Krasniqi in 7
Brewster was on a better run than the 3 guys listed as Vitali best wins.

It would appear that the White Wolf has a greater single win than Vitali.

    good counter points

also Rahman fought for the world titles nearly 6 years after ruiz beat him. Why is this overlooked?

it’s better than anything vitali has by a mile.

Is there a weaker 3 fight WBC defence run than

    - Kevin Johnson
    - Albert Sosnowski
    - Shannon Briggs

That’s on par or worse than wilder

Gun to my head id go with Vitali over Ruiz.

Vitali would have bludgeoned Roy Jones Jr and beat the version of Golota that should have got the decision over Ruiz.

Ruiz was also a bit of a slackass clinch merchant. Wasn't a fan of him , although he was tricky to beat.

I think Byrd vs Vitali is a good discussion. I think Byrd has the better resume by hair

sure, h2h I think vitali tkos ruiz. He’s practically made to order for vitali.

I just do not see how he is seen as an ATG and mythical H2H beast when you have to say gun to your head when deciding who’s resume is better v John Ruiz.

and ruiz is part of the laughing stock pass the WBA belt about era

and Byrd was quality, shame he only got the IBF and never got the Lennox fight. (Although I think Lennox wlads him)

Vitali, and it's not remotely close. This kind of thread is what illustrates the fallacy of looking at names on records and making assessments purely on this. Ruiz is one of the most illegitimate beltholders, as virtually all of his "victories" over mostly rather ordinary HW contenders were gained due to incessant violation of the rules against excessive holding, violations that his connections with Don King allowed him to get away this.

Even worse, the "victories" over Johnson and in the second Holyfield fight were "achieved" due to overacting when hit with borderline body shots to get key "low blow" point deductions, or in the case of Johnson a bogus DQ "win." Again the connections with King brought favorable treatment from refs for these shameful tactics.

And then there was the outrageous gift decision against Golota, where Ruiz hit the deck twice and got a rare point deduction for his blatantly illegal tactics, and yet somehow got the decision. King's influence clearly extended to judges here, as it did in other fights at this time.

So John Ruiz belongs only in the debate over WORST HW beltholders of all time, because his whole career at the world class level is essentially based on chicanery. Vitali, on the other hand, is one of the top 2-3 beltholders of the last 20 years, and has a decent resume with legitimate wins. No comparison.

So according to your own logic Fury is also not an ATG and not a H2H beast since he never even defended his titles and only defeated low tier, low skill Wilder and grandpa Wlad. Lol Same Wlad who was brutally stopped by old Sanders and Brewster. And that was close to prime Wlad and not old, slow lethargic 40 year old.
Oh and he also beat Pianeta and Sefer Seferi and hardly won against Wallin.

It will read UD but it's up to you to dig deeper. Not all wins are equal. If some fan decides to look into two fighters' win against a common opponent and they look beyond "UD" and see that one won 12-0 and the other won 6-6 with a KD, you don't think they'll get a different perspective? Stop it. Even better, he looks at both fights and sees the massive difference in performance, you better believe he won't think they are equal.

Also if Tyson had not had tune up aginst Williams Vitaly would have Tyson his resume but it would give him no credit or extra boost to resumé.

    Thats just my criteria

Rahman was at low point and so was holyfield.

Ruiz easy, if we are talking about who he fought, not beat

    Holy x 3
    Johnson
    Tua
    Rahman
    Oquendo
    Toney
    Jones
    Valuev
    Haye
    Golota
    McCline
    Chagaev

    How can anyone pick Vitali
