Im sorry but I never held Vitali Klistchko in that high of a regard. Who has he beaten worth a sh*t? On a side note, I do think Lewis became a great fighter, unfortunately his time didnt come during the last days of real heavyweight boxing, and he was stuck with a horribly flawed generation of fighters, which suprisingly got worse and worse as we see today. That being said, I dont think Lewis would have been held in such high regard, had he had a prime Bowe, Tyson and Holyfield to deal with during his prime along with some of the strong fighters of the mid and late 80's. His flaws were too apparent against mid level fighters who were able to take the fight to him and take away his biggest weapon and expose his shortcomings, ie, no infighting game, and a shaky chin.
Its damn close...I will probably go with Holyfield by just a shade! Longevity and some of the odds he overcame being the difference.
I give holyfield the edge only b/c most of the people he fought were in their prime and not washed up.
Wasn't Lewis losing the Vitali fight? Arguments that Lewis was dominant and knocking out fighters and Holyfield won by mostly decisions. Let's see, Holyfield was a CW who had to prove he was a real HW. He did and accomplish so much more. Poking fun at Holmes and Foreman who both were beating everyone in front of them even at there tender age. Lewis had a great win by KO'ing Rudduck, but then again, Morrison did the same thing. Lewis became a very good fighter thanks to the help of Manny. How would he have faired without him? I guess we will never know. Maybe he would have accomplished the same feet or he possibly would have had been KO'ed much more then the two he got starched.
I saw the fight several times on youtube and it looked like klitschko was doing better than lewis until that cut eye which really sucked for klitschko. If it wasn't for that cut I think Lewis would've gotten ko'd b/c Klitschko took that massive uppercut no problem. But at least Lewis retired after that fight and didn't keep fighting like holyfield.
Man Vitali was so open for the monster left hook Lewis was throwing, he got hit with it half-cocked ONCE and he was just about out on his feet for a half-second had the fight gone on, or the cut not happened, vitali was on his way to the floor either way
I personally felt Lewis fought out of character for that fight, because he knew he could get away with it. He told anyone who would listen how to beat the Klitschkos. He called Corrie Sanders to talk to him about his strategy against Wladmir. I think he was a little suprised that Vitali stood upright as long as he did, but this was Lewis plan the whole time, and it worked perfectly. By the mid rounds Vitali lost his will, and was getting hit cleaner and easier, and the cut only saved him from being flattened by Lewis completely. The Klitschkos cant fight a lick.
I was gonna call you up for having a go at Lewis (who is one of my favourite fighters):bart However you seem to quite rightly despise the Klit bros so I suppose your alright!
Holyfield really LOST to a hesitant Moorer and only won the rematch against the fat version. He LOST twice against Bowe. Bowe then was spanked by Golota. Lewis' utter destruction of Golota doesn't impress you, but Holyfield's losses do?
Its funny I get a lot of flack on this board for being a hater or whatever, but really I just call it like I really feel about a fighter. Its not based on whether I like them or not, I just try to keep it real about my opinion on their ability, legacy, fighting style, etc. I never liked Lewis' fighting style but I think he was a great fighter. People get too personal on this site. BTW, I remember you back from the boxing.com days, that was a long time ago we were on those boards.
Golota lost every meaningful fight he was in. Beating up on a shot Riddick Bowe was his claim to fame, and when the shot Riddick Bowe showed any resistance he fouled out and LOST both fights right? Were talking about resumes here anyway, not wins and losses. Holyfield was competitive in every fight he fought in, never blown out or knocked out by one punch. I watched the first fight with Moorer several times and I never could figure how they gave that fight to Moorer. Holyfield was hurting for sure, but he dropped him and did enough to retain the title as the champion. Hell even his corner thought he had lost. The second fight was against a Holyfield who was still riding the high of the Tyson fights, and yes Moorer was somewhat pudgy but I didnt see much less from him, he always had issues in the chin department.
Thats not me mate. Must be a coincidence. Did they have the same username as me? As for people getting too personal your right. Also the gf here is very partizan. Prefer the Brit and Classic forums where people don't through a hissy fit if they disagree with you.
yes, well maybe I remember you from here, but I remember your username, but maybe it was someone else. You never posted on another forum about 10 years ago?
"Prime" is a tricky issue. Lewis probably was at his natural peak in 1992-1993, but after spending some time with Steward as his trainer he became a MUCH better boxer and overall fighter. Also physically, though he was aging, Steward had him put on a few pounds to get up to 245, which was a better weight for his new boxer-puncher style.
