Holyfield fought lots of good opponents but he lost a lot too. And, the fights he won he needed steroids, headbutts, tackles, and punches after the bell. Also Riddick Bowe is a joke who is only made to look great because he beat Holyfield...TWICE. Using Bowe as a measure of Holyfield is lame because it was Holyfield's losing to Bowe that made Bowe.
I was practically a luddite ten years ago mate! Didn't know how to switch the tv on let alone a bloody computer.Though the internet was for fishing! Have been posting here since 2003/4 but there was a crash and I think I had too rejoin. Can't remember anyway as it was ages ago.
Don't be biased man. If you aer going to put up Lewis's losses you gotta put up evander's also. I fixed it for you.
Overall body of work - Holyfield. Heavyweight - Lewis. Its amazing how the Lewis detractors bring up his sole (avenged UNLIKE Holy) 2 losses so much. Holyfield got beaten far more often and got dominated in his prime. That never happened to Lewis. And Lewis beat him head to head just after Holyfield got his best win. Once the heavyweight dust was settled 1999 / 2000 / 2001 Lewis was the main man on the throne and Holy was on the sidelines. Being American doesn't entitle you a free pass on your (many) losses. Fact.
:think Ill give it to Lewis just cuz he beat everyone he's ever fought n plus 2 wins over Holyfield(even though they said the first one was a draw) kind of gives him the edge a lil more in my book.
Far more often in his prime and dominated???? By who?? Id say he lost to Bowe in his prime and thats it. Holyfield was beaten by a far better fighter than Oliver Mcall and Hasim Rahman.
Bowe didnt face the greatest "name" competition, but he certainly fought his way into earning the #1 contender spot, and proved his ability by defeating another great in their respective prime, something Lewis never did.
I would say the prime of Evander Holyfield ended in 1994. Sure it was a great accomplishment to beat Tyson, who was never the same himself coming out of prison, but his inconsistent performances started around the Moorer fight. Lewis beat and fought to a very close second fight against an Evander Holyfield that was already over the hill and maybe already a 1/4 of the way down the hill.
