Which fighter has the better resume in terms of competition they beat? I pick Jones Jr. I will take his wins over Toney and Hopkins over any of Floyd's wins.
Cotto was better than Toney and B-hop when they met Jones and he threw far more punches at Floyd than Toney or B-hop did v Jones, Judah was another good, fast opponent on Floyd`s resume and Corrales ws also a good win too, Floyd was a lot better than Roy p4p.
Cotto was not better than even a green Hopkins or P4P Toney. No way. Cotto was coming off the Margarito beatdown too, lacked confidence, looked like merely a decent welterweight against Clottey, and bent forward with a loose guard begging to be smashed by uppercuts. The Cotto that fought Pacquiao would be torn up by a laundry list of WW's throughout history.
Floyd has better resume, and I don't think it's that close. But h2h Jones at SMW or LHW is very high, so I have him higher h2h than Floyd at any of his weights.
I like Roy's career more. Mayweather might have more top fighters when he handpicked at the right time, but Roy proved more in his fights. Hopkins, Toney and Virgil Hill were impressive. He dominated all of them one way or another.
I cannot agree with that. Toney to me is a better fighter than Cotto at anytime. I like Cotto, but he was hot and cold and he had a limit to where he could go. His best win is an old Mosley in my mind. On paper Floyd has Oscar, Manny and Mosley, so that is why it looks better, yet no matter what people say Floyd waited 5 years to fight Manny, and the other guys were older. I put Roy ahead of Floyd in the greatness category I think.
Mayweather has the better resume for sure although Jones moving up to HW and winning a belt was impressive.
Jones. Mayweather after Castillo (who he lost to) only picked the biggest names despite them being decades past their best and five divisions past their best, and Hatton and Cotto were at their best at 140 and young Canelo had that weight stipulation against him. Toney, Hopkins, Hill, Castro, Reggie, Griffin and Harding were superb boxers at the time, not blown up short limbed names.
Yep and Roy taking a chance and going up in weight to fight Ruiz with no catch weight rubbish. I reckon Roy doesnt get enough credit for the Ruiz win. Ruiz was no great shakes but he was still a legit world class heavyweight at the time. How many other ex middleweights have beaten a good heavyweight ? Not many at all. Floyd fought more names than Roy but Roy gets the nod for me, Toney was unbeaten and Hopkins didnt lose a fight for twelve years after Jones outpointed him. Add Reggie Johnson, Eric Harding and Tarver and its Roy all day for mine despite Roy facing some pretty ordinary fighters at 175. Cheers All.
Put me in the RJJ camp, Roy dared more, and I'll always give more credit to the fighter that successfully takes on the greater challenges in these discussions. Toney and Hopkins were top shelf victories that would enhance any resume, Ruiz was a remarkable achievement, even if he himself wasn't a great champ, the Griffin rematch and the close win over Tarver before his career entirely dropped off.
