Better Resume: OSCAR DE LA HOYA or ROY JONES Jr?

chavez was still past it when he fought oscar - and quartey was a hair's breath away from finishing oscar in that fight (but that's boxing and one of those classic 'what-ifs'), but the trinidad wasn't a robbery - it was a case of oscar losing the fight rather than tito winning it.

fight goes for 12 rounds and oscar's reputation for blowing late in fights grew roots in this fight.

i wouldn't count either quartey or chavez as one of his 3 biggest, and i'd probably rank the vargas fight at the time he fought him as the highlight of oscar's career to that point and a bigger win than quartey.

unfortunately oscar became his own worst enemy.

both mosley and tito rejected rematches becasue they didn't want to take a paycheck less than a guy they already had a win against - so instead of making those fights happen, which would have been no skin off oscar's nose, he took the hopkins fight at middleweight...

the "hype, coverage, sporting significance, media interest" is throwing a grey area on it though.

the post is about who has the better resume - but by the criteria above floyd steals the top spot hands as a whole.

what we all say is subjective that's why we press our case so hard.

floyd, tito, chavez for the criteria you're using (in no specific order).

 

Two separate weight classes but I would go with Oscar, (Roy hardly fought any notable fighters,maybe cause there weren't any in his division) IMO no way in hell he lost to Tito (or even drew as same people seem to think he at least deserved) and beat a roided up Mosely the 2nd time around. But since it is Oscar, he will always be bashed by his detractors and try to discredit his accomplishments.

 

because he wanted to cash in and, as the cashcow of our time, he had the luxury to do that whenever he wanted to. it didn't make him deserving all the time, but his marketability reflected his pulling power.

oscar clearly became the promoter more and more.

watch his early fights when he was hungry and watch how much more aggressive he was and how many 4-5 punch combos he threw.

you can compare that to 5-6 years ago even.

oscar's a HOF fighter, clearly, but i hope you're implying he was 'great'.

 

RJJ and it isn't even close unlike ODLH he won his big fights, His top 3 wins beat Hoya's hands down as he has wins over Hopkins, Toney, and Hill while DLH has robbery over past prime whitaker, wins over a shot Chavez, and a victory over Vargas(Post Tito). Also RJJ was able to beat Tito and Hopkins while Oscar lost to a faded Bhops, and lost fairly to Tito.

 

Oscar may have fought the best fighters of any fighter in the past 30 years...

Oscar has a great resume and he has fought the best fighters of the era before him Chavez, Whitaker, the best fighters of his Era Mayweather, Tito, Hopkins, Mosley, and the best fighter in the ERA after him Pac...Past, present furture...That guy fought them all..........Only Problem he didnt win many:yep
