Better Resume: Thomas Hearns vs. Floyd Mayweather

The great wins on Hearns record is Benitez, unmotivated Duran and Cuevas. Good win Virgil Hill. Those are good names even better that the ones of Floyd, but Floyd consistant opposition of good wins put him on top because all the oposition that Floyd had fought in the last couple of year has been top ten fighters even top five fighters in those weights. If Floyd manage to beat Bradley, Brooner and Sergio Martinez He will be in the top ten fighters of all time. solid wins against Khan- Alexander winner and Danny Garcia will help too.

 

Thomas Hearns has the better....

 

Hearns dared to be great and even though he suffered a few losses that is to be expected when you fight that many greats.
And Floyd has no wins to even compare with Hearns top 3 wins.

No brainer, Hearns for me.

How does Mayweather over Marquez not trump Hill and Cuevas by a significant margin?

And if your answer is size, than I would tell you to quit being a hypocrite and value the Duran win so highly given the size issues there.

 

Bruce Curry, Eddie Gazo, Mark Medel, Murray Sutherland, Angel Espada, Nate Miller, Saensak Muagsaurin and Doug Dewitt were all former or future world titlists.

Clyde Gray, Harold Weston, Juan Roldan, Luigi Minchillo, James Kinchen, James Shuler and Freddie Hutchings were all legitimate Top 10 contenders at the time they fought Hearns.

There's quite a bit of quality there, Nonito.

Floyd's not as far behind as some might think, but top to bottom, I think this collection, and the ATG's that Hearns faced, tops FMJ's list of opponents at the moment.

Those names that you've mentioned eclipse anything on Floyd's resume.

He fought peak versions of Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler. Ray is one of the greatest ever fighters, and Hagler is one of the greatest MW's, if not the greatest MW of all time. He's also got a peak Benitez.

Floyd has NEVER fought against an ATG in their prime.

He also swerved Manny, and wouldn't fight Alvarez unless it was a catchweight.

If you're asking who was better, then that's another debate.

But Hearns fighting peak versions of Benitez, Ray and Marvin, eclipse anything on Floyd's resume.

The biggest name on Floyd's resume, is a 34 year old Oscar, who had only fought 3 times in 4 years, and who retired a year after they fought.

Then what?

Depends on what you like in this one. Hearns has a few that are considerably better quality but Floyd has quantity. Comes down to whether you like Tommy's stronger top wins (duran, benitez, hill, cuevas), or Floyd's greater depth of mid-level contenders.


Also worth pointing out, Hearns has what should unquestionably be viewed as a win over Ray Leonard in their 2nd fight.

 

Totally agree with you!!!!! If these guys were fighting today many so called fighters today would be fighting in Mexico or Europe only!!! If you don't know check out Hearns' fights and see for yourself.

 

Thomas is probably the most dangerous fighter in history for a guy like Floyd. Height, BIG reach advantage, and killer power.
