    Some of Tunney’s best wins:

    Dempsey 2x
Greb (at least 2x in their 5 fight series)
    Gibbons

    Some of Marciano’s best wins:

    Moore
    Charles 2x
    Walcott 2x

    Among others

Who would you say has the superior resume?

Im guessing you're referring to just Gene Tunney's heavyweight resume, right?

P4P, so including his accomplishments at lower weights too. Does it impact your choice?

P4P i am willing to give Tunney the edge. Greb was in his prime when Tunney beat him while Charles was in the latter stages of his prime. I think Greb was closer to his peak during the Tunney rivalry and while Charles was still prime for the first Marciano fight, i feel he was further from his peak than Greb was from his.

That being said, Charles and Moore are both all time top 10-15 p4p fighters while Greb is top 10. Moore was still prime when Marciano beat him.

Very close. I think if you look at heavyweight, Marciano has a better resume. I will take Charles and Walcott over the 1926 version of Dempsey but p4p i will take prime Greb over 1953 version of Charles.

    P4P: Tunney slightly

    Heavyweight: Marciano

I think Tunney beat 8 HOFers.. Carpentier, Dempsey, Gibbons, Greb, Houck, Levinsky, Loughran & Smith.. are they better than Louis, Moore, Walcott, Charles, Layne, Lastarza etc?? Especially when u apply weight disparity, age & condition etc.. Interesting debate.. Greb & Charles are two of my GOATs.. Loughran is right up there with Tunney himself as an ATG.. is beating a young Loughran better than beating a veteran Archie Moore? Walcott v Dempsey? Who would win? I'll wait to see if the thread grows before i contribute further as i like to see other opinions first..

I say Gene Tunney, he defeated Greb 3 times, Dempsey 2 times, Gibbons (the only one by stoppage), Loughran and Carpentier. In addition to other important fighters of his era, like Levinsky. Surely some were no longer at the top, like Dempsey and Carpentier, but others were very competitive. More than the best defeated by Marciano (Louis, Walcott, Charles and Moore) in my opinion.

Tunney if we're talking his P4P resume. Marciano's wins at heavyweight are much more impressive imo.

P4P in all divisions, Tunney by quite a distance.

At HW only, Marciano by quite a distance.

P4P, those wins over Greb push him past Marciano.

Marciano takes it at heavyweight, but you could make a case for Tunney pound for pound.

    At Heavyweight ...

    Marciano: Louis. Walcott. Charles. Moore.
    Tunney: Dempsey.

    Verdict: Marciano.

    ---

    At Light-Heavyweight ...

    Marciano: Did not compete.
    Tunney: Greb. Carpentier. Levinsky.

    Verdict: Tunney

Tunney without question. Even at HW Tunneys got more quality, people just are less familar with someone like Weinart or Battling Levinsky then they are with someone like Rex Layne.

Marciano for me by virtue of the fact that I am a huge Charles fan.
