Interesting comments by Futch - excellent provision of the contemporary newspaper article btw, thanks - but those comments were made just after the first fight and prior to the completion of the trilogy - after which it seemed more firmly established that Norton would always be trouble for at least the 70s version of Ali.

While training for the rematch or just after, I read an article in an old boxing mag. in which Ali himself stated that Norton would’ve eaten up the younger version of himself (Ali).

So as I read it here, it was only after they split when Futch said Norton was steered away from punchers? Was their split civil or acrimonious? Interesting since there was a feel that Frazier was also kept away from the likes of Shavers and Lyle and that Durham didn’t want Joe to face Foreman.

Finally, the article references Norton’s “disputed” KO loss to Garcia. I thought it was just a clean cut loss - does anyone know what “disputed” might be referring to?

Anyway, just an FYI, from CHAMPIONS FOREVER time stamp 1:09, Norton’s take on the 3 fights - Ken won one, Ali won the second fight by SD, could’ve gone either way - and Ken felt he won the third fight at Yankee Stadium.
