SRL, is leagues above JMM in my opinion... JMM would have had to beat Mayweather.. then we would be talking.

You realize that JMM doesn't have the physical attributes of SRL and that he was smaller than Floyd. He had zero chance of winning that fight it doesn't changes the fact that he has great IQ. I would still favor SRL but the difference is not that big.

I voted for SRL, but those are good points and your conclusion as well.

SRL. He was more versatile than JMM. He also fought and beat the better competition. He also moved up and fought and beat a legend in Hagler.

This was actually shockingly tough to decide... SRL is definitely smart but he is also very athletic... JMM is almost all brains. He is not quick or a devasting hitter so boxing IQ is his biggest asset. i will have to go with JMM by the slight margin.

    I voted JMM.

SRL has great ring IQ but he was an extremely physically gifted athlete, and those skills were visible throughout his entire career. Even if he didnt have great ring IQ he still would have been a great fighter

JMM relies ALOT on ring IQ. I cant imagine him being a great fighter without it as he isnt as talented as lets say...Pacman or even Morales/ Barerra. He built his career on solid fundamentals which boosted his ring IQ, which is why he has been able to maintain longevity in his career.

Leonard was clearly the more adaptable, versatile fighter. He knew when and how to adjust and proved it in a wide variety of situations against top level opposition, he knew how to make his opponent play his game, he knew how to steal rounds, and he knew how to take command of a fight and keep it even against the elites of the sport. Ray being the much more physically gifted of the two doesn't mean he wasn't the more intelligent boxer as well. He's Ray Leonard. As great as JMM is, he's absolutely nowhere near that class.

Agreed with everything here. SRL was a class or two, above JMM. Floyd is the closest thing to a fighter like the Fab 4, and that's pushing it.

Boxing isn't what it use to be. There are less registered boxers today than in the 70's and 80's, so naturally the talent pool is more shallow.

You guys think a fighter like Cotto would be the 3rd biggest PPV draw 20-30 years ago? He'd be a journeyman, and gate keeper at BEST.
