Vladimir Putin wrote a book on Judo. Lol, I might check it out. Putin is a 6th degree (or Dan) black belt, higher then my instructor.
Would really take little knowledge to take out someone with skills. You start dealing with scum of the earth, the type that don't hold much value in human life, it doesn't take much to get them to pull a trigger. I don't know any degrees, or dans that make one invulnerable, or even capable of dodging a hollow point. Even dealing with someone holding a knife.. You make one slight mistake and you get stuck, have your wrist slashed.. Someone who won't hesitate to kill you if you resist isn't going to be easy to defeat, or pull some elaborate move on. Negotiating around a knife is 1000 times harder when that knife isn't rubber.
Dealing with opponent's who has knives is difficult, and if they are gypsies it's almost impossible to win without get wounds (they are trained to use knives)...point was/is, someone like hokutoryu ju-jutsu is better selfdefence than judo or BJJ, because you dont have to go down and youre trained more to use kick and another thing..above green belt, you must fight to get belt and if you're good with your "own" fellows-who try to get belt also. there is coming higher belt owners to test you...you must really earn that belt..
It depends on who you fight. Its good against people who don't know wtf they're doing but if u meat a boxer, wrestler or BJJ you just gona get slaughtered.
He was probably the best or second best grappler in the world in the late 80's early 90's. [YT]H7bCSf0YR5g[/YT]
What about fight with 3 street bum with good attidude? You go down with one and another one's nail you down, with kicks...against one to one, those sport maybe better, but in real defence, they are more and you cant go down..
I've already stated that BJJ is not gona work against multiple people. Please pay attention. P.S the best defense against multiple people = track.
Thing is, who are you training with in "Hokutoryu"? Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, BJJ, Muay Thai; you have credible athletes in there with you and lots of live action, anything along those lines is what matters, knowing how to do whatever it is you do against a real live resisting body. As for which way is the best, as long as you have a viable plan for standing, in close/clinching, and the ground, who cares?
Point is that you can go with those guy's what you mentioned atleast a while.. and take a came area, what you like most?! BJJ and judo you cant do that - you're an the ground and vulnerable situation. So best self defence sport is something else than bjj or judo..
Judo is the art of putting somebody on the ground with you standing over them, there is no better position in a fight. But like I said, you need to have some sort of viable course of action in any position, you can't always help where the fight goes.
Most who teach Judo will teach ground work as well though. I'm uncertain its actually part of Judo itself.. Most Judo I learned was in the clinch and had everything to do with building balance and avoiding being put on the ground, developing balance to put your opponent on the ground, learning how to perform air falls to avoid being seriously injured, or ukemi's, which actually translate to learning how to fall correctly, be it falling out of a golfcart, to tripping up while in a full sprint and not falling on your face.. I was horsing around on a golf cart recently and fell out of it on my back, I rolled and popped up.. It was funny to everyone that saw it because it looked rehearsed, but it works quite well.
