However, the answer to the threads' question is Calzaghe. Surprised by the votes Ward is getting... Short term memory.

Yeah and I think Calzaghe was bad-ass in that fight, those fans were baying for his blood, calling him a "Welsh *******", but when he started destroying Delaney, who was a good fighter, they didn't know wtf to do

Just realized I sounded like a Calzaghe hater. To clarify:

Calzaghe def won the first 4 rounds, and the 5th was great two way action with Joe clearly getting the better, but I really don't think Sheika was out of the fight.

And if not for the cuts, I doubt he goes into "all or nothing" mode the way he did. Props to Sheika though, gave the fans what they wanted and rather than get punished and further cut over several more rounds, he went for broke. Wish more would do it that way.

Calzaghe did fight somewhat dirty. Enough so that I can say Calzaghe in Calzaghe/Sheika fought dirtier than any specific Ward fight I can think of. I don't think either are dirty fighters, just stating this due to the amount of trash Ward takes for fighting well on the inside. He doesn't have the power to scoot the opposition back, so what else is he gonna do when he's unloading on the opponent, back up and drop your hands?

Fair enough mate I see your point, like I said, I wouldn't begrudge him a rematch in that situation at all, but I still think he loses it, even in a neutral venue or America or anywhere else.

Its too early to say he has surpassed Joe but he's fought the better comp in a shorter amount of time .

Outside of Hopkins who else does he have ?Froch is better than most of those opponents you mentioned including Lacy by a country mile

That Lacy being favored crap only worked with the fan boys .

I honestly didn't have much of a point.

But, oh, no question Calzaghe beats Sheika 19 times out of 20. Maybe 18.

Not much in it, but Joe still has the edge.

Joe fought Hopkins abroad and that settles it for me. Not so much Hopkins, but the fact that he went across the Atlantic to fight a top fighter. Ward still is exclusively stay-at-home fighter.

Despite Joe's resume being thin outside of top 5, neither Manfredo or Lacy is a top 10 win. Manfredo not even a top 20 win.

Half of these names are place holders.. at this time the SMW division was a dump.. Eubank, Reid, and Kessler and maybe a Lacy.. thats it..

I have said it already.. Joe has the better resume.. Ward in a 2 year span is about to Trump Joe Resume and he is still in his twenties...

I think that is pretty spot on. Calzaghes resume is only borderline above Wards at this point. A rematch against Kessler and a victory against Bute would make the case clear.

    Calzaghe's resume is stronger now.

Ward's resume will be stronger by a long way when his career is over.
