Regardless of it being a combination of factors i am not sure you can call the Douglas win "lucky". He put on a clinic against a guy who had some so intimidated they couldn't remotely do themselves justice. He had to get off the canvas and fought with heart, determination and skill. It was nothing like the Hearns fight where Barkley was getting hammered before one punch pulled him out of the fire.

I'm not saying it was better than Ali - Foreman but "lucky" doesn't quite fit imo.

    The question is rather vague.
It depends what is meant by "better".
Better in the sense of more drama?
Better because it was more unexpected?
Exactly what criteria are we using to determine "better"?
So I'll use the two criteria I just mentioned to compare the two fights.

I found the Tyson result much more unexpected because I knew that Foreman tired in the later rounds and suspected Ali would take advantage of it. I also found the Tyson Douglass fight more dramatic because there was a lot of back and forth-especially with Tyson Flooring Douglass. In contrast the whole Ali Foreman fight was Ali lying on the ropes and Foreman uselessly ponding away. The only drama there was whether Foreman would be given the decision on points or whether Ali would come out of his shell and actually fight.

The result was on a razor's edge and the finale came unexpectedly since we assumed that Douglass had been seriously stunned and that Tyson would follow through with his previous knockdown.

A lot of back and forth? About the only back and forth was in during the extremely short passage when Tyson floored him.

I saw both fighters fighting. What did you see? Douglass lying on the ropes and Tyson pounding away?

I saw Douglas"s" comfortably outboxing Tyson pretty much non stop excepting when he was dropped. To say there was a lot of back and forth is quit frankly absurd.

Douglas controlled the fight from the outset. He landed more punches than Tyson actually threw.

I think wins over a legend if you are a legend is the most important win. Ali over Foreman. Hagler over Hearns, the upsets are nice, but if the guy who beat the legend cannot make it to legend status, then he had a good style matchup, which always helps.
