I disagree. Tarver was huffing and puffing once he'd thrown a couple of shots. Woods just literally did nothing all fight. I'd put Tarver and Jones' performances about level considering the standard of opposition they actually faced in the ring.
But were not comparing Hopkins win over Tarver or Joes win over Hopkins. The thread asked what win was better between Joes over RJJ or Dawson over Tarver. I based my answer over who looked more impresive in their wins before losing, do you think RJJ looked more impresive beating Tito, than Tarver beating Wood?
Fair enough if you disagree, but the fact is RJJ was on the ropes, losing rounds and being backed up by a Welterwight who has been on a layoff for 4 years. Tarver was facing a geuine sized Light Heavy who was also world champion and showed a lil huffing and puffing but looked more impresive IMO.
i was at the fight on saturday. calzaghe won but did NOTHING. you don't really realize how little he does until you hear the punches. i'm sure he could've done more but held back out of respect. still jones elbows must be hurting cause that's all calzaghe hit. dawson landed way more clean punches, in legitmate flurries, than calzaghe. and he stayed on his feet...
To me it's Dawson vs Tarver for the simple reason that Calzaghe was a heavy favorite vs Jones while Dawson - Tarver was more of a 50-50 fight because Dawson was still somewhat unproven.
Roy wasn't? At least bring something else. I think Dawson over Tarver was something like more meaningful. Because, to my view, Tarver was "less shot" than Jones. I honestly think The Magic Man would have give a better fight to Calzaghe. Don't get me wrong, Joe would have won no doubt. Has i think he would beat Dawson too. I just feel that a young gun who, lets admit it, still at an early stage of his career, beats a TRUE champ (belt) who DID beat Jones (2 1/2 times) is bigger. eheh english far form perfect..sorry.
Dawson over Tarver because Dawson is still an up and comer. At this stage of Dawson's career, its a very good win. For Calzaghe, who is in the part of his career where he is supposedly facing elite opponents, Jones is not that good a win.
Yes he wa but do to styles and his current condition and heart he still put up a better fight.Everybody was saying Tarver had a puncher's chance....his power was completely erased...his punches had absolutely nothing....no power...plus he didn't fight with the heart of Roy...you can see at the beggining of the 9th Tarver is already given up,his look is one of a defeated fighter.
I understand what you are saying and agree to a certain degree. I just don't think that Dawson stealin Tarver's heart means the victory was less impressive. I fell that both Tarver and Jones stopped trying at a certain point. Maybe Jones looked more aware, looking like he was trying to find a spot...but he did'nt really try more than Tarver. Anyway, the question asked in that thread is not that all black or white. I'm fine with your point of view.
