People think ali was an underdog.... Pep shouldn't have been fighting after the plane crash, add to that the way he was demolished in the first fight as well as the greatness of saddler, it is easily the better win if you ask me
I have to agree with this. Whilst Ali's win is the one of folklore, considering the physical dimensions and the comparative savagery of Saddler compared to Big George p4p, Pep had a bigger task ahead of him.
Going with Pep-Saddler as well, all the way. Pep had suffered a plane crash he shouldn't have recovered from, and then beat the greatest puncher the division ever saw, despite Saddler being a stylistic nightmare for him and having a clear height and reach advantage over Pep, and he was a top 30 P4P fighter ever. It could very well be the greatest win in the history of the sport. Ali's exile wasn't as bad as Pep's crash, and Foreman wasn't a stylistic nightmare for Ali (if anything it was the exact opposite), didn't have the physical advantages Saddler enjoyed over Pep, and was a lesser fighter than Saddler as a whole.
Both were coming back from severe adversity, Ali 3.5 years in exile and Pep serious injury from the plane crash. Saddler is a virtually the consensus #2 all time FW. Foreman typically somewhere between #4 and #11 at HW. Ali's win was and still is, more high profile, but Pep's win greater, imo, when viewed in the above context. Factoring in all of Pep's fights vs Saddler, they don't impact his standing as positively as Ali's win over Foreman, though, imo.
