So it was you. I'm not taking you seriously enough to get into a serious debate over this. Think about what you are saying. Leonard was 147lb fighter, had not fought a professional competitive fight in 3 years and was moving up to take on one of the best Middleweights of all time. Hagler had shown no indications of being anywhere close to shot, so what we have is a smaller, inactive fighter beating an active, past his best but dominant Middleweight. It was a great win. Stop taking those conspiracy theories too seriously. Boxing fans resent Leonard for being the poster boy. They also feel sorry for Hagler for never getting that kind of mainstream respect. Don't matter. When the two threw down, despite Hagler having the majority of advantages, Leonard won. Cry babies.
atsch It gets worse. I thought you were just an old timer, but you're actually a Leonard hater. I scored the fight for Ray, as did Robbi, who is a big Hagler fan. Get over yourself.
Some fans, yes. I don't hate him for being a poster boy. I dislike Leonard for being a very sneaky little *****. His demands for the Hagler fight annoy me quite a bit. The ring size, thumb attached gloves, and the fight having to be fought over 12 rounds. All on Leonard's terms. And the two titles in one fight against Lalonde is outright cheating. Leonard's standing and power in the sport when pleading with the WBC resulted in his wishes being granted. IMO, two titles from two seperate divisions in one fight isn't defendable. However, these views on him don't cloud my judgement on his abilities as a fighter and what he achieved in the sport. Hagler should still have handed Leonard his ass on paper, but never. I happen to rate him highly as fighter. I could easily jump on the bandwagon and say that Hagler won. But if I did I would telling myself lies.
Ray Leonard is every bit as good as his resume suggests. He took advantage of his standing in the sport, but I'm inclined to believe Hagler would have too if he has such a standing. In any event, ATG win by an ATG.
that would explain why he looked so sharp. How else can you explain it? At the very least you can tell us how it is that he looked as sharp as he did if you have nothing to hide. Otherwise, the rest of us might start looking at you see as a cultist They may not have been official fights but he found a way around it while not actually having to risk his record. What about that fight I heard in which he was knocked out? What about that fight he had with Mugabi? I think the media did a masterful job of keeping the lid on it. And you have to admit that ray could have taken the Hagler fight far sooner than he did. The timing looks very suspicious.
Mr. Marvel Hagler was shot to pieces. I saw it for myself 3 weeks before the fight with the Weaver triplets. So even if Ray did win it didnt surprise me considering Hagler's performance in sparring. I wouldnt call leonard's win as much of an accomplishment. It's like telling people that Holmes' win over Ali is a great performance
I'd say Leonard's win is the better as he was fighting for the first time in a couple of years and was up against not just one of the best fighters of a generation but of all time. Still Duran's win was also a great achievment.
I thought that would bring you out. Selfkill, you're ducking Mr. Marvel's question. By saying you're not taking him seriously, you're actually excusing yourself from having to answer him. I dont see why you cant answer it. It's a simple question. I also have a question for you Ray had been doing the commentary for Hagler's fights since his first title defense starting 1981. Why was it he never came out and started telling people "I can beat hagler" until after the Mugabi fight and shortly after begin publicizing a challenge? And up till then he had always been so hesitant to face him. How is it he suddenly lost his fear of risking his eye. And not only for this biggest of fights; he was also risking his eye against lesser opponents for far less money and even up till the age of 40. i also dont see why he couldnt fight at the age of 26 against Hagler if he was fighting at the age of 27 against Howard
Selfkill I'm still waiting for a response. Everyone on the board is waiting to see how you'll answer it. Your reputation is on the line
"Leonard-Hagler" was the bigger fight on PPV, etc.... BUT! The fight was too tactical.... STILL! Its the more popular victory.............. HOWEVER! Duran's win over Barkley is more better and more fun to review......... Peace.... SR.BILLARDO
Let's put this into proper perspective. I didn't hijack it. Selfkill was doing very well until Mr. Marvel posed a question to him which he definitely should have been able to answer. Then he suddenly began to back down. And you saw how he did it, by playing the part that he couldnt take his question seriously. Unless one is a cultist, it shouldnt be difficult to defend a position
