This is a spin off from the Pac/Leonard thread.
    Question is self-explanatory,

Who has the better win. Leonard vs Lalonde or Pac vs Margarito?
    Explain....

    Good post and good question.
I did a thread on Lalonde recently.

In answer to your question I would say Pacquiaos win was better. Margarito was a WW just recently before and was struggling at the weight, so was fighting at a weight that suited him. Pacquiao wasnt even above WW.
Margarito had been fighting at a higher world class level for longer as I recall.

As for Leonard - Lalonde, Lalonde was fighting at a lower weight to what his body was used to and claimed he did what I recall him saying was a 7 mile run and not even break into a sweat because he was so dry at the weight.

Finally Pacquiao dominated his fight with Margarito where as Leonard was put down twice and hurt

This is a good question, one I'd never have considered. I'd go with Pac-Margo, because I think Margarito was a better fighter than Lalonde. Margo's stock is low now, but his performances against Cotto and Cintron etc shouldn't be forgotten. I wouldn't be surprised to see him achieve some more good things in his career, as long as he isn't facing more guys with the elite level handspeed of Mosley and Pacquiao.

Pac didn't lose a round to Margarito while SRL was knocked down.

People ***** about Pac winning a light-middleweight belt at a catchweight of 150 and say he's a fraud...

.... and yet say nothing about SRL winning 2 weight division belts (WBC Super Middleweight & Light Heavyweight) against a drained Lalonde @ 168

Leonard gets some hate for the Ladonde fight because he couldnt hide the fact that it was for a catchweight.

What most people dont know is that SRL/Hearns II(163lbs) and SRL/Duran III (162 and half lbs) were catchweight fights that were demanded by SRL and nobody talks about it at all because SRL kept it in secrecy.

Lalonde was a better win. Margarito was coming off a bad kayo and a suspension for cheating. Lalonde was on a roll and was the defending champ. Plus Leonard closed the show with a great knockout.

If I'm remembering correctly, I had Pacquiao dropping 1 or 2 very close rounds (most likely 1) against Margarito.

    Or are you talking officially?

Margarito is better than Lalonde, had a bigger size advantage than Lalonde, and Pac still beat him more convincingly than SRL beat Lalonde.

Lalonde was on a win streak, but Margarito would also have been on a win streak against that caliber of opposition.

    no contest really

    Good answers all.

I prefer the Margarito win myself. Sure Margo had been stopped by Mosley but I didn't expect Pac to ko him, I expected Margo to be the one that walked in against Cotto with those viscious body shots giving him an edge that people weren't seeing. Pac didn't get the ko like Leonard did but he dominated throughout. I do think the Margarito that showed up would have eaten up most opponents that night.

One judge had all 12 rounds for Pac, which is how I scored it. The other 2 judges gave Round 6 to Margarito. Harold Lederman (HBO's unofficial scorer) scored all 12 rounds as well for Pac.

    :good

Round 6 was when Margarito caught Pacquiao with a couple bodyshots wasn't it?

Yeah, I think I gave Margarito that round, if I remember rightly...Pacquiao was having somewhat of a breather round, and then got caught with those shots. Pacquiao fired back, but I gave it to Margarito.

Margarito said he was in tremendous shape for that fight. He kept stalking Pac even though he was getting badly beaten up. I think he was 1 good body punch away from KOing Pac in the 6th round. Pac said he couldn't believe how he took all of his punches and said his wrists hurt from all the punching. He had to go to the hospital as well to check for broken ribs the following Tuesday.
